Most of the ones around here even sell punky wood for their $300.oo/cord. The guy I have gives it to me for $270.oo/cord mainly because I am never in a rush for it and he can deliver me a pickup load (1/3 of a cord) on his way to town. He knows that if I should run short I have no problem going to his place to grab a third myself. I have never found any punk in his wood. All Maple, Oak, Beech and Yellow Birch.

The heat is on...

... Makes me glad I use coal. For the price of two cords of wood I can get two + tons of Anthracite. I get my exercise each morning by moving some from the bunker to the stoker.
I may die from Black Lung but, I'll be warm while doing it.

You also live where the coal is cheap. That helps.

We get coal delivered to the Port of Tyne and transferred onto railway trucks to be transferred to the odd power station but that's about it these days.

I ran with coal haulers when I hauled down to the 'states. Don't do that no more.

Didn't they close all of your coal mines over there, Jim?

I can relate to sharing the road with those eastern Kentucky coal trucks. Those drivers are all nutz!

My coal guy hauls straight from the breaker here in the northern Appalachians and he supplements his income by hauling fuel oil too. He's a German immigrant descendant named Streit.

Yep, just a few opencast left as far as I am aware.

When I was a kid just about every terraced house had a coal bunker in the backyard.

Invested in two heat pumps this past year, has cut our heating bill almost in half.
