My opinion is, buy a copy of SH5 from here for 2 bucks and play with it. Modding and experimenting is half the fun. This is just a game after all.

Good luck

Since SH5 can be purchased so cheaply now, I say get it and try it. If you don't like it you won't be out a whole lot. I recently bought SH5 off Amazon for a whopping $8.50. Graphically it's beautiful, even on my old dinosaur. My old computer runs it with high graphical settings with decent framerates. The only thing I did was turn off shadows. Turns out I'm not liking it as much as I thought I would. I haven't even got to my patrol zone and that was a week ago. I think my issue is learning the whole new interface. If you buy the DVD version it comes with an hour long documentary on USS Lagarto. I haven't watched it yet, but that seems like it's worth the cost in itself. One thing that kind of surprised me is when I registered SH5 on UPlay it came up as the gold edition even though I have the DVD version. I'm not sure what the gold edition has, but it's cool that I apparently have it.

My point was that this question has been asked and answered so many times that all possible opinions have been given. I'm betting that no matter how many people respond there will be the exact same answers that have been given before. Some love it and swear by it. Some hate it and swear at it. The only way you can really find out for yourself is to find out for yourself. That answer has also been repeated ad nauseum.

In case you didn't notice, four of them are two months old and one is only two weeks old, so this is not old info that you have seen, but brand new info you didn't bother to look for.

Sorry if I've gone on a rant, but exactly how many threads do we need asking the same question over and over?

Oh, and to answer the same question yet again: SH5 is very much loved by the people who love eye candy and Type VII U-boats, and SH3 is prefered by those who want to play with other types of boats. The modders for SH5 have had to spend most of their time fixing the game, so much less has been spent adding all the new things SH3 has. On the other hand neither one has yet to match the gameplay of Aces Of The Deep or SH1.

And, as has been said here and elsewhere many times before, it is so cheap there's no reason not to buy it and see for yourself.

*May as well stick my twopenneth in*

In a word YES and as I've stated on many a previous occasion...the SH series is so cheap in price these days it's got to be worth the purchase for so little financial risk.

Thanks Fellow submariner's

thank you for the current advice, no slight intended Steve( I checked the dates on those threads before I commented and I promise not to make anybody repeat anything anymore, lol) .......purchased both.

Only problem is ....when I tried to order it direct threw the Subsim link it stated that it could not be shipped to my address, so I had to order it from a Canadian addressed company.

will have to donate to Subsim also I guess.
