Default missing startup icon on desktop

For some reason my startup Icon is missing on my desktop and I can't access the games main files from the start menu on the left either.
All I have in the start menu folder is:
registration reminder
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific game manual
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific readme
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific website

the only way I can start the game is to open the cd tray and close it again.
Real pain the butt when your working with mod files.

Go to where you can see your C:\ drive or wherever you installed it.

Find the folder under C:\ where you installed it.

Open Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific and find the file sh4.exe

Right click it, select Send To Desktop (create shortcut) and you will have a desktop SH4.exe shortcut. You can right-click it and select Properties and re-name it anything you like.

Happy Hunting!

That's what realized when I started playing around with the modding folders. I saw the icon in the base folder and shortcut it to me desktop.
Thanks.

Do yourself a favor, buy this;

http://www.dummies.com/store/product...470497432.html

Creating new shortcuts and figuring out folder paths are among the most basic basic operations in windows, you'll save yourself a lot of time and head banging if you take time out to learn the basic basics. The "For Dummies" series is easy for even the non technical, I once taught Windows 95 to a bunch of first grade inner city kids using the book for Win 95, and they could all read and understand it.

The shortcuts and folder paths isn't my problem is figuring out what paths work with each other. With the JSGME program I wasn't sure if I put the entire folder in the SH4 or if I uppacked and inserted its contents into the SH4 folder.
I unpacked the folder contents into SH4 and it works so I figured that out.
A lot of this stuff stays the same even with the changes in operating systems but having been out of it for 5 years it might take a while to get the hang of it again.
thanks for the help.
