His family however delivered ammunitions to the armed forces.

Alfred Nobel himself was strongly anti-war, and reasoned that a strong and dangerous mega-weapon would intimidate mankind so much that it would stop waging wars (in principle the equivalent to the logic behind MAD during the cold war).

The Nobel prizes he founded short before his death when he had to decide what should be done with his wealth after his death. A foundation should manage his wealth, and the yearly profits should be given to those who won the prize, in several categories that he described.

The problem is that the scientific Nobel prizes get decided on by scientific institutions, but the peace prize gets decided on by a commission controlled by the ordinary political parliament of Norway. Which of course must cause according results.

Bring in politicians, and you're done.

Poland must think so, they've managed to persuade the US to send some more F-16s over.

I don't know why people get spun up over the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a private organization's award. They can give it to anyone they like.

The Nobel Peace Prize has never meant that the recipient is a good person, only that the committee chose them according to the organizations criteria.

Where is it written that anyone else has to agree or even understand what this organization uses for criteria?

Their organization, their rules, their award.

Besides this is just a nomination

I think there's a certain assumption that goes with the name of the award.

Nobel peace price

I'll wager most don't even look up the particulars (I know I don't, and could hardly care), and only run with the general assumption that it is a prestigious international recognition for humanitarian work of legendary proportions. When your average joe thinks of the Nobel Peace prize, they think Martin Luther King, or Mother Teresa. Names like Obama are nowhere near this league, so it cheapens the perception of what the award is about. So, Obama, Putin? Sure whatever, why not.

In military terms, it's like getting awarded a purple heart of sitting on your cot with a finger up your nose, when an explosion went off somewhere else on the base, and you just happen to get a tiny sliver of steel stuck in your ass (literally), so the powers that be in charge, decided to give the award even though the recipient was nowhere near any real combat. (I've seen that happen actually)

No.

Nobel's Last Will.

Nobel's criterions.

Nobel's financial heritage.

Their political hijack. Their fat cat abuse. Their political instrumentalization and ignorance of Nobel's Last Will.

It is formulated in his Last Will. The criterion for the peace prize is this line: it should be rewarded

" to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses ."

That'S it.

Protecting the environment? Social justice? Women's rights? Plans and hopes for a peaceful world? Idealistic promises? Socially revolutionary economic changes like micro credit banks (now under heavy fire, btw)? Forming a continental economic union? Fighting poverty? All this the peace nobel prize is NOT for.

So basically, what was once a prestigious award, now has no more significance then a bumper sticker.

But by that standard Putin should win the prize. After all, he is trying to reduce the armies of the Ukraine and Crimea and bring peace to the region.

Again, much as Hitler did.

Was not the EU awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012? Take it away, Skybird.

There is something that must be highlighted about the Russian operation in Crimea. Though, it looks like a military invasion, so far it hasn’t involved any violence on the part of the Russians. I guess that the situation is volatile and this can change any second. But we also have to remember that unlike the Zionised West that is quick to use vast and lethal fire power that leaves countries in a state of carnage for decades, the Russians are operating in Crimea under a heavy smoke screen, they are supported by local militias and so far, they have achieved their military and political goals without fatalities.

Putin.
