I think the standard depth for water supply lines in a temperate climate is 18 inches. My well is down 90 feet and last year we had the feed freeze up where it comes into the house. Easily thawed with a drop light.
It's been much colder this year and it hasn't frozen once. I guess I got enough insulation in there to prevent it from freezing again.

That or the water is cleaner.

Either that or you are using more water this year. Running water is 'not' supposed to freeze. But Niagara Falls froze twice this past winter.
