I don't believe in putting the agent at that much risk, so I'm usually within 600 yards of shore after carefully doing a long, slow recon of the shore line. Haven't been surprised yet, because the insertion point is usually fairly remote from shore installations. I only surface to let him off at the darkest point of the night. After he clears my boat, I go back to PD and slowly back away from him before turning to leave. Gives him time to clear my path. Works every time (so far!).
