I don't think I'll be using this technique anytime soon, it's not really needed. I will use the 'make a mark, wait, make another mark' technique to get a rough speed while submerged to save getting my scope spotted. If it's thick fog, I don't usually attack as I can't usually identify the ship as friend or foe. Even if I just assume and shoot at as close as I can guess, I'm likely throwing away a torpedo that I will really want later on. If I can see stuff, I have proper ranges, bearings and therefore speed. I'm not that desperate that I shoot at anything.

I might try this for fun. I'm playing with WO help at this point, so he gives me the speed anyway.

He can only give the speed if the target is visible allready. This method was intended for use when the target wasn't visible yet. When you can only hear it with hydrophones.

Excellent advice, sir! I will use this technique the next time I encounter a British merchant in heavy fog and heavy seas. It was really frustrating for me on my first patrol to find a British C-2 off the NE coast of Scotland without being able to get a shot from a forward position because of the fog. Whenever I got close enough to see the ship, I was too close for the torpedos to arm before making a hit. It was a waste of time to just follow the ship around by her stern, matching speeds, and making turns when she zig/zagged. Thanks again! |

Hey Guys,
I don't know if this the right place to ask this question, but I installed the Sound Trainer file as instructed by the Readme. I can't get it to load. Click on start, nothing happens. I am running SH3. Would love to get into more hydrophone training. Any ideas? |

I have no fatigue crew and clearermap with nomograph.
That's about it for the mods that I've installed so far.I noticed that each of the single missions also have a media.cfg file which looks the same for each single mission, so I slipped a copy of it into the sound trainer folder I created, but no dice. Do I need to drop a copy of the mission into the german folder like I did with the english one? |

Sorry about that. The link is http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005_sh3.html
It's on the old download page for SH3 with other mods. |

If I remember correctly, the folder that you put the .mis file in needs to have the exact same name as the file (excluding the .mis). Make sure that is correct. Or better yet, extract the entire folder "Sound Trainer" into the apropriate language folder. That should make it work for sure.
And if you have the german language option installed then it must be added into that folder. I put it in German because I have the German language option set. If I placed it in English then the mission didn't show up in the list. The media file was not in it, but still got the right background and text in the loading screen. So I don't think that is a show-stopper. [EDIT] Also, I remember this one was intended for an old GWX version (1.02 or something). So it probably has a unit database conflict if you have stock SH3. (See if it validates in the mission editor) I have GWX 3 and it worked for me. Well, it loaded and got me into the boat. Might have the wrong units as intended in it though. I too have the English/German options. I slipped a copy of the mission into the german side of the Single Missions Folder, and IT WORKS NOW! I'm going to assume that any future single missions will have to have a copy in the german side. Thanks for the help.
