I think the cover looks like Tom Clancy's SSN. Thank god the content isn't the same!
btw - wouldn't it make since to have a NATO D/E sub since it "will feature localised content" and can we poor USA customers get this content?

Need I remind you that it was a WWII era Torpedo that sunk the ARA General Belgrano (also of WWII vintange along with some of the other ARA ships)…

n/m I just looked it up. Did you know that WW2 technology torped was a dud! Of the 3 torpedos fired by HMS Conqueror all 3 hit (which shows an amazing fire control plot & solution ) but 1 did not explode!

It only took one though.

It actually took 2 beacuse the first hit in the bow and tore it off but did not effect the watertight integrity of the ship or light the fwrd powder locker.

Every time I look at that box, I hear in my head:

"Con, Sonar, Cavitating!"
"Recommend lowering all masts and antennas!"

And I wasn't consulted about that box art either. (I did the 3D models/water for the US boxed release)

If you can't beat em, join em... I'm going to add a WWII mine to every box cover I do from now on! (let's hope we don't make a 18th century sailing game or a flight sim next... )(grin)

I can put money down that only one would've completed the mission to keep that cruiser away from the landing zone though.

The 'PROJ' near the white hash marks (the ones so you can tell the ships draft) should be removed I think. IIRC 'PROJ' only shows up on PCU boats (ships before they are commissioned) and since all SSN-21 class boats have been commisioned its seems kinda strange to have it there (and before someone opens their mouth that is not a Va class boat on the cover).

While I was in we had those ships draft markings with the PROJ on the hull. They were not so much for us but for the tugs and harbour pilots to use. Granted, they did tell us when we needed to do a low pressure blow in port when the boats draft got a little deep. As for the DSRV hatch markings, now THOSE need to go. In shallow water they would be REALLY visible from above. They are only put on for deep dives following a major overhaul and sea trials.

According to the caption, the Connecticut is on the way for it's first deployment.

"Crewmen prepare to cast off all lines as the Navy's newest fast attack nuclear submarine, USS Connecticut (SSN 22), departs her homeport of Submarine Base New London, Conn., on her first scheduled deployment."

Oh ok stupid me. I thought that because I've only seen the new 21s and VAs have PROJ.

BTW What does PROJ stand for? :hmm:

New London! <Gasp>

The Subase folks would be so disappointed in the author for that... Wrong side of the river, of course. (should be Groton, no?)

LOL Wrong homeport now! They are now based out of Naval Base Kitsap (Bremerton and Bangor).
