Also the primary reason that the Tories are practically extinct in Scotland. They've been demoted to party of local councils, rather than a possible national government. Even then, their support is primarily rural, rather than urban.

the Poll Tax was introduced into Scotland because they knew they wouldn't get any votes anyway. The mistake she made was still introducing it to the rest of the country later, after it had already failed in Scotland.
