Doenitz is an interesting one, whilst he wasn't a long-standing personal friend of Hitler like Goering, to call him a Nazi hater would be over stating at best and plain wrong at worst. It's always very difficult to get a clear picture of someone's ideology particularly after that ideology is on the losing side of a war. Doenitz gets lenient treatment with his perceived ideology I believe in large part due to his reduced sentence at Nuremberg. It's true that he certainly wasn't the stereotypical fanatical Nazi.

As the post above shoes he certainly made comments that could mark him out as a Nazi, but then it could be argued "what else is he going to say in public"

It also seems to difficult to accept that Doenitz would continue to be promoted throughout the war, and be named Reichsprasident by Hitler if he was such a clear cut Nazi hater.

These matters are never black and white, and anyone's adherence to any belief or ideology will always shift slightly throughout their life.

Apologies for going off topic there.
