James May did something similar in 1992 in Autocar

Sometimes they get caught, sometimes not.

I recollect that in WWII, the London Telegraph paper crossword had the key words: Bigoted, Overlord, Omaha ,Utah, Neptune etc in it and raised quite a ruckus at British intelligence: MI-5, that the D-Day landings were being compromised by a snarky crossword message to Abwehr agents.

Nothing new here?
