Well there are thousands of pirates in Somalia in a fairly safe region (for them) where gathering solid intel is very difficult at best.On top of that you only risk you most elite forces on the most vital targets or in the most vital situations because you never know what may go right or wrong.Elite forces have bad days too.

Generally speaking at any one time in a given region there may only be a few dozen elite of a given unit readily available you want to employ them but not over employ them.

Also just the general expense of a black op is prohibitive.

The Libya operation was Delta Force who typically avoid the limelight and are not officially acknowledged by the DOD unlike the SEALs.That does not mean that for some very bad people who are no longer in this world their last sight was not a stack of Delta Force bursting in.Any member of Delta is a bad dude a true Spartan warrior with many years of experience as a Ranger and a Green Beret before even getting invited to try for Delta.This is out in every media outlet so someone at the Pentagon felt that they should get credit and very rare attention so they let it be known through unofficial channels.


Saddam Hussein capture that was Delta and the raid where his two sons where killed Delta was in on that as well along with many operations in Afghanistan.Some you have heard about but credit was not given not that a Delta member needs attention.Not to rag the SEALs but they are the "Hollywood" elite force and in truth it is DEVGRU which is comprised of the most skilled SEALs is the truly elite group they did the Bin Laden raid.DEVGRU is another invite only unit other SEALs in DEVGRU must approve any possible candidate to get invited to try out.

I don't need to know who did it so just say it was an elite seal team and leave it at that, why are you telling us it was this exact team for the terrorists to know who to target for revenge? and yes I know designations change so its not always the same people but you are making anyone labeled with that team designation as target number 1 for terrorists.

this is the exact reason seal team 6 was targeted and some members killed after bin laden raid, because some moron went and say the name of the exact team who did it

It could also be that "SEAL team 6" is the only recognizable designation the press knows about. I would not be surprised that pretty much everything the SEALs do is attributed to "SEAL team 6".

Which is interesting, especially since SEAL team 6 has not existed since 1987, but what does the press know.

I think the other SEAL teams prefer "SEAL team 6" get all the publicity.

That is the idea there is no "Seal Team Six" except on the TV news.

Just as there is "Delta Force" but there are guys that the most skilled and most intelligent elite out there
that you do not want to encounter during business hours.

DEVGRU are not all SEALS either some are Navy EOD others are working dog handlers and others are crypto.

Of course back in Vietnam the CIA had the Special Operations Group which was comprised of the most the most elite.I am sure
that something similar still exists.

The "targeting" Webester refers to is untrue.What happened is a US.Army MH-47 which has a distinctive appearance was shot down and it just so happened to have several members of DEVGRU inside and they got killed along with the crew of the MH-47.The attackers had no idea who was in that aircraft beyond the fact that such aircraft are used by elite forces making it a most high value target it just so happened that some men had been on the Bin Laden raid.It would be impossible without an inside mole for anyone to find out who is in these elite units.

The "targeting" is just another interwebs conspiracy and is a factual as school girl gossip.
