I'm all for the UK.

Been wanting to return to London since 2003 and it's in my financial range.
I'll just beg Jim or H-B to lend me their lawns for accommodations

Well, you can all send me money and I'll build my cottage in the spring and we can have a subsim meet in the middle of nowhere

Considering that if we don't go in the peak season, cruises are pretty reasonably priced. We can just meet up in texas or florida, hop on a cruise ship, and sail out to see for a week or so.
A cruise would be a good way to meet everyone with or without a wife or girlfriend, double occupancy is always in every price.

Food is included, entertainment, skeet shooting perhaps, single ladies perhaps, casino, sunsets, meeting rooms, picture taking, fellowship, sea stories ...

Same problems as a land locked meet, air fare, transportation, passports, visa's, but everyday cost would be reduced.

Houston is a long way, but they do have cruise ships that meet that pull into port there along with Corpus Christi and New Orleans. It doesn't have to be a whole week or even a cruise to anywhere special.

I think we should plan for a super subsim meet for the 20th anniversary coming up in three more years.

Super subsim meet in Hawaii would be my best choice with the USS Missouri and the Arizona memorial and at least one WWII submarine and many other Navy ships available for open house or even request a VIP tour of a nuclear submarine.

Yes, Hawaii would be great, but oh the planning and moans and groans and the financial problem of saving say $60.00 a month for the trip 39 months from now. A special bank account set-up with automatic deposit would be great for self discipline.

This year is a goner, next year plan a cruise and when is the 20th anniversary anyway 2017???

Neal said he already spends 2 hours a day mending subsim so it would make sense to elect someone that doesn't have enough funds to put it all together and get a free cruise or at least plane fare for the trip.

Someone like Sailor Steve hint hint

I like this new cruise ship from Star Pride, it's more yacht like, but only does the Mediterranean:http://www.usatoday.com/story/cruise...aries/2346453/

Quote:
Passengers will explore the Black Sea, the Corinth Canal and other corners of the Mediterranean region on Windstar's newest ship, Star Pride.

The yacht-style cruise line has announced 2014 itineraries for the vessel, beginning next May.

The 212-passenger, 106-cabin ship is the first of three identical vessels acquired by the company. Each is 440 feet long, 63 feet wide and has six passenger decks.

Haha, how about you buy a boat and we'll all just sail around Lake Bled for a week, stopping to sample the local hospitality of an evening.

Of all the lovely and beautiful sites in Slovenia and Croatian coast you had to mention that shanty town surounding a cesspool

If I might recommend Napa CA along the greasy green banks of the Napa river where the finishing shots of Apocalypse Now were done; with tours to the regarded San Francisco Maritime Museum: Baleo class sub; only one of two operational Liberty ships (A Sacramento river cruise is possible aboard her) the Balclutha clipper ship, aircraft-carrier Hornet, and the former Presidential yacht now operational on the Bay ETC. Throw in a Hornblower Dinnerboat cruise on the Bay and all the wine tasting (residents and their GUESTS are free-custom breweries for Jimbuna) with a tour of Mare Island Sub facilities on the Napa river at Vallejo and the Subsim theme is upheld. Plan it during fleet week or a Tall Ships week and joy is complete. The jetcat ferry from Vallejo to Fishermans Wharf and the Baleo/ Liberty exhibit is also a first-rate demo of marine twin hull harmonic convergence! And it will save Steelhead airfare to Australia. Unfortunately the battleship Iowa was towed to its new location from the ghost fleet on the Sacramento River and is no longer in the Bay area. I will shortly be refreshing my nav skills piloting my neighbor's 25' daysailor from the Alameda estuary to the Benicia Yacht harbor and its new home berth, a northward sojourn, against a prevailing westerly breeze, of 10 hours; I am assured the stays, halyards and the Nissan engine are restored to condition able...if I don't post again, someone drop a wreath off the Hornblower-iron men and fiberglass hulls-Gadzooks!

This has come up before, and most of the time it goes nowhere, for the simple reason that everybody thinks it's a great idea, but nobody wants to actually be the one to do the work. All it takes is for one person to act like they really want to see it through and it can be made to happen. Unless that happens, it's all just talk.

This is true and I'll add, it gets planned, then 75% of the people don't show up.

That's why you set up a special bank account that lets you automatically deposit say $50 to $60 a month out of your bank account to a vacation meet fund set up say through a Houston bank.

Only serious members need to reply by putting their money where the subsim account is at.

A subsim thread could be closed for posting unless you have 10% already deposited showing your sincerity. The other wantabe members at a subsim meet can still read the post, but only members already committed can beat the drums and look forward to the meet.

In other words put your money where your keyboard is
