It is tough to decide a year in advance what matchup is going to be a good game to watch.

Traditionally, the Raiders have given the Broncos fits when they go to Denver to play.

Not sure there is a way to fix this.

I don't think there's a way to fix it either. The only way to (sorta) guarantee a good game would be to pick the teams a week or two in advance at most. That would be incredibly disruptive.

What I can't stand is the announcers are so busy trying to impress us with their "so called" knowledge of the game, that they can't get what's going on on the field right, or miss it all together.

P.S. I can handle a bad game as long as the announcers are reasonably good. Today's crop of TV announcers are irritating at best.

Not a fan of the Thursday games.

well that's where I got the idea of the in division matchups from

now every division has its usual weak team but you can in most cases pick the average top two teams from each division and when they play each other, that is the game you pick to put on Monday night.

for me its Saints vs Atlanta, no matter how good or bad either team is twice a season each time when they play its a good close game and im sure everyone can say something like that in there area so you have two games right there that would be a good reliable choice to pick from.

I think there is always a chance of the occasional stinker game but it was only a few years ago when they would still wait to schedule games only a few weeks in advance so they make sure to get the best games on tv. unfortunately because they have to lock in the game so far ahead because of all the $$$$ in stadium bookings and other bs stuff related to tv they have to pick the matchups so far in advance now.

even college has gone away from that as evidenced as the Alabama vs north florida school for the blind they played on the featured TV game, that was just pathetic but college is a whole other issue with the top teams playing local high schools just to get 5-6 "free" wins every season and ensure themselves a perfect unbeaten record. it started out as a revenue sharing for poorer schools but quickly turned into a cheating system to avoid playing too many tough games.

It is also because ESPN now has the Monday night contract, but has no Sunday games so switching a game to a different day a few weeks in advance isn't going to happen. When ABC had the Monday night gig perhaps that was possible.

no I was saying they should be able to (like they used to do) switch the games so the lame duck teams they had would move to a regular sunday kickoff and they would take one of the good sunday games and move them to the prime time Monday spot.

as to your point, yes its locked up a year in advance because now the networks are in control where in the past it was the nfl that selected which teams got the featured spots on "prime time". espn would love to have a better game but nbc and fox don't want to give up a good game for a lame one even if it wouldn't be their featured game

its just so sad that the sunday and Monday games that used to be the games of the week you looked forward to have become just another ho-hum who cares whos playing tonight game

I have never had and never will have nfl network so I never see a Thursday game unless its my local team but the whole idea of a Thursday game is just unfair to the players and coaches since there is no time to rest, plan, scheme, and practice to properly prepare to face another team so soon after playing a sunday game the week before. they did away with the Saturday games strictly because of the preparation issues it caused teams and then they turn around and throw in Thursday games to try and make more money knowing full well the teams playing come in unprepared to give 100%.
