This must have been a labor of love paid by the insurance company for the cruise line to get it out of that harbor in Italy
Well this is mor to do with not leaving a wreck that could be a potential environmental or navigation hazard- which in the article Feuer Frei! linked to is also a negative influence on tourism. I read or heard somewhere there was a worry about the ship breaking up with winter coming.

Mr. Nick Sloane has told to AFP that ship's hull is so badly rusted that it would not survive another winter nor there is guarantees that it will survive lift attempt.

Imagine what mess there will be in shoreline! Thousands of tonnes of rotten food in sands...

The human sewage (the Captain) got off the ship before it capsized.

This operation they are running now, and the plan for how to continue, is one of the occasions where I witness myself staring at a building and observing something going on, and then saying to myself: it's amazing what humans can do, if they really want it.

I find the effort extremely impressive. Hope they do not get struck by misfortune.

From what I can see in the darkness of the live footage, she is upright, or nearly upright. There's some damage midships from her time on the rocks, but that's to be expected.

Congratulations to all involved on a successful lift operation. Very professionally done.

Yes, a truly amazing feat of modern engineering

Sure they got the ship to stand up straight using the water boxes wielded to her side, major engineering feat I might add, but now they have to float her.

heard a rumor that she won't make it to the scrap yard till spring

Well... if that is true then I don't dare to imagine the final price tag of this operation!

They should put Captain Schittino back onboard when they tow it.

Oops! She sank in deep water.

Did I fire that torp? Naaahhh. Nobody saw me. You can't prove a thing.
