Oh so true. I haven't been reenacting in the last 2 years (too many schedule conflicts- see pt boat and paintball). I always laugh at the really fat ones. We had one in our unit for a few years. I'll tell you a funny story, but I can't do it now (my work day is starting) Just a teaser though, he was about and inch taller than me and weighed atleast 400 lbs.

For once I agree with Steve, just wanted to mention the hopefully upcoming series, not talk about heat issues, such as Lincoln {the tyrant}

I'm more interested that the movie stays historical, showing Lee's superior tactics, the fighting skills of southern men, our beautiful women and the fact we're better looking, better lovers, but most of all

we produce the best bacon...

Yep, I've seen many a funny charge. I went to a reenactment this spring and the crowd was giggling over a few 300 plus pounders being left behind the regiment during the charge.

We had one we called "Cannonball"

Thank you Steve. I have to agree, it is in our past, I only hope this show can show tribute to both sides, for fighting for what they believed in, and to honor 2 great men in American history.

I purposely worded my posts to prevent an argument and feel offended my post was used to piggyback a north vs south crapstorm.

Okay, so here's my story.

At our last reenactment of the year (Ft Steven's, not the subsim club house), we had had a bunch of thefts one year, so we implemented a night watch program. Our assignment was to guard the reenactor parking entrance at night (all night until sunrise). Well, one year, I had the first watch with Richard (the 400+ lbs dude). Now I didn't really like Richard, so getting stuck with him on a two hour watch made for a looong two hours.
Anyway, our relief watch came out to meet us and zooooom Richard was gone. Note, I did not know a 400 lb man could move so fast, and here is the reason why...

Well, my unit commander, and best reeacting mate came out to get me (I was loitering, talking to the next watch pair.)
He said, "Jason, you need to hurry up and get back to camp if you want to eat."
It was after 8pm, our unit had already had dinner.
I said "okay" and kept doddling along.

"No, Jason, you need to go NOW if you want anything to eat...Richard is...."

OMG, then it dawned on me, Richard is there!

I didn't run back, but I walked very briskly back to our camp.

Now, as it was described to me, Richard came flying in and went straight for what was left of dinner and started eating like he hadn't eaten in three days.

Richard was always first in line at chow call and he would eat a lot!

I don't got the energy to argue today, Steve. Bump the I hate the North/South Thread up tomorrow, maybe I can play.

As for today I salute the men who indirectly shaped the united states, for good or bad.

2 great Americans IMHO.

General Lee was always a gentleman, and Gracious in defeat, Grant was a pompous, "cigar chomping a-hole" (das boot anyone?)

But upon meeting, there was no deeper respect amongst 2 military men, since Scipio Africanus and Hannibal Barca.

Grant, for all his rough edges always respected his enemy, and Lee the same, if not more, being the quiet reserved man he was, not as loud and flamboyant as grant, but just as huge a presence.

Miliarily, it was one hell of a chess match, niether men really welcoming the bloodshed, yet accepting it.

I want to see about them. Lee is vastly respected in the North, and was even back then. I do not know Grants opinion in the south, but I assume they respect him and his exploits, despite the outcome.

We are all Americans, which gives us the right to irritate each other, in the end we are brothers who hate each other, yet band together to kick the crap out of the kid across the street messing with one of us.

I like to attend Revolutionary war re-enactments at Monmouth Battlefield, the fat guys usually work the cannons.

Actually some of us die fast so we don't have to clean the gun( my Parker-Hale two-band with Snyder bayonet); and on one occasion when we didn't appreciate our little martinet of an LT we all fell on the first volley...behind his back. The look on his face when he turned to give the order to return volley is still talked of today.
