She's not exactly in control though. Perhaps this is in reaction to being managed, styled and controlled to within an inch of her life for decades.

It's the same story of child stardom. Sad and repetitive.

What is repetitive is the child stars are often faced with a failing career. Since her Hannah Montana roll Miley has not amounted to much. These child starts rarely go much farther then their rolls when children. The only thing in their bag of tricks is doing outrageous things whenever possible. Take a look at Amanda Bynes. The list goes on.

Miley is only following in the footsteps of other female recording artists who found their careers waning and pulled out the shock and awe campaigns. Madonna, Cher, etc, etc. Disney made enough off of Miley to buy the Star Wars franchise so it's only natural that her current management will do anything to keep the cash cow milk flowing. She's going along with it. What's that say about her? Mediocrity bound I'd say. If she shows up in a centerfold for Playboy, I might buy a copy just to burn the glossy off a horse toothed brat.

I can honestly say that the only music I ever listened to that made my ears bleed was from Mrs John Lennon. Oh well, at least Paul was smart enough to give Linda a dead microphone to screech into and Yoko' demonic overtures never made it onto the airwaves.

Put on your Mickey Mouse ears boys and girls so you can receive the signal.

I find that today's music is 90% showmanship and 10% musicianship. The songs can still have great hooks and be memorable, but one no longer needs to be a talented musician to give a creditable performance. Can't sing on key? No problem we have pitch correction on the fly for that now. Can't play any instrument but have some good ideas? No problem as the tools are out there to fix that. It's really the opposite of the highly trained musician that can't perform to save their life.

The song is bland, so needs the video to spice it up. I find her hair cut the worse part, give me the old Hannah Montana look with longer more feminine hair any day. And her tramp stamps look awful as well.

Now the Robert Palmer video for 'Addicted to Love' was a classic.

I think Neal talked about the Sinhead O'Connor song - which we do still remember after 2 decades.
I didn't click on the Cyrus vid, but processed voice and drum machine sounds more characteristic of a modern teeny-bopper's performance than of "Nothing Compares To You".

The cloud does have a silver lining.
Remember when MTV was music videos 24/7/365?

Today they don't run any music. Just trash reality shows. If they still showed music videos, then Muley would be twerking her wrecking ball all day every day. Heeeee Haww!
I would have to delete the channel out of my cable boxes for sure.

I think you are being generous. With autotune (and the other like software) actual musical ability ranks pretty low on the qualification list for a "pop star".

Appearance, an ability to move (some might call it dance), and acting ability (not the theatrical kind, but the showmanship kind) and you are done. Software can manage the rest.

Let's see these "pop stars" sing standing still, live, with no mixing. Then we can see who is or is not a singing sensation.

I have to admit some confusion on how much attention the Milely Cyrus video has garnered. To me this falls squarely in the category of "small stuff" that is simply not all that important.

You don't think that her publicity agency is behind this... do you?

Is this the new curmudgeon mantra? "why I remember when MTV had music"

"No way gramps, you are pulling our legs."

Of course, I am so old, I remember when indigo was a color.

Man you missed hair metal videos during the 80s.

Whitesnake made some stinkers, KISS always sucked, and still does.

Geez watch mid to late 80s MTV for stinkers.

Miley and her chicken butt got nothing on the 80s. Yes a chicken butt.

Don't know this person, but simply the first place I found it online.

Bad haircut and a horrific backside, Stick that tongue out again, gonna need it.

EDIT: Steve, sidenote, that voice processor is called autotune, great if you are tone deaf, or cannot hold a note. it has made any modern star, from Britney, to miley.

Ronny James Dio is rolling over in his grave.
