Well, that may have been the only lager they had. They clearly are using an Ale for the dark pieces, and harder stuff overall for the bigger pieces.

I was thinking about that. If I was still drinking, I would have asked if you drank your piece or the captured piece to determine whether I wanted to be white or black.
