I've never watched American Idol but the winner of that show sang the national anthem and stunk up the place with her own version in front of many honored veterans. You could see some of them cringing on the line.
When will baseball insist the song be presented the way it is suppose to be and stop the disgraceful renditions. ![]() Tom Seaver threw out the first pitch so the show is making a comeback. ![]() |

![]() ![]() Become a Cardinals fan. We have fans literally all over the country. We do pretty good....The last season I remember where I seriously thought we sucked was 2007 after everybody got traded off after the '06 Series win.

Well...the fans of the Jays even admit that they suck.
![]() How did the Canadians get involved in MLB Baseball anyway? ![]()

And than the expos folded. I think baseball should really try to tap into the huge international market. The rays were talking about moving, and I always thought it would be good if they moved to Mexico City or something |

![]() It gives me something to be proud of...this is America's Game... (even if the Northern Friends want to play, they can. Toronto is close enough to the border ![]() I like that we have MLB... There are other international leagues but it just isn't the same. Now if there was a world league too....I wouldn't mind... That would actually be pretty cool...A team from whichever countries want to participate...kinda like the olympics. Just as long as America keeps her baseball the way it is. ![]() Now the players can come from other countries...our former powerhouse Albert Pujols was a great ballplayer... WAS! and he is Dominican. Everybody loved the guy. I have no problem with other countries sending people to play baseball. There's all kinds of great players from countries that aren't the US or Canada. Sorry if this sounds kinda oddly worded or not making sense in some parts...Baseball is something in every American's blood IMO and it's something I feel strongly about (being my favorite sport and all ![]() ![]() Baseball should be American. I'm just simply stating my opinion. It's good that you have an opinion. A lot of the European members here don't understand baseball...they are Cricket people...and we don't understand that. Everybody has their own game and has a right to that game. I just feel that baseball is ours. ![]()

In Citi field, where my crosstown rivals, the Mets play, Mariano Rivera recieved a 2 minute standing ovation from not only the crowd, but from both benches.
(edit: BTW he pitched a 1-2-3 inning.) (He is retiring after this year) If you look at his save stats, no one is anywhere near catching or breaking his record. He is the Babe Ruth of closers, and of course he is a Yankee. ![]() Every stadium he has been in, he actually got cheers as he came out from away team fans, which is big, because when he comes in, it means your team is losing. Much class from the fans and both benches last nite, love or hate the Yankees, you have to admit, Rivera will be the best for a long time. I once saw a documentary on him, where he showed how to make a glove from a milk carton, like he used in Panama as a kid. Now a first ballot hall of famer, and a class act of a man. Great to fans, especially kids.

Well Red, our National League lost the home field advantage in the World Series due to their pathetic 3-hit performance. Looking at the bright side, it will be a lot easier for me to attend World Series games 3, 4 and 5 in Atlanta.

How does Canada feel about baseball? Is it like Hockey in the US where only the hardcores follow it? (NJ devils fan! ![]() MLB is only interested in franchising cities who could draw and sell Jersies. Would it be viable in Canada, or is it somewhat "secondary" and just something that is there? I would love to see more Canadian teams, the season is long enough to allow for it. I agree with you too, the name "world series" should mean the world. But the overpaid princesses may have to play more games, poor millionaires.

If the 1994 strike did not happen the Montreal Expos could have very well won the World Series that year. From there a new downtown stadium would have been built. More than likely the team would still be there today if that happened.

I still call them the Expos, and even get yelled at for it. I just have a problem with them becoming decent, with MLB subsidies under the Washington Nationals banner. When as the Expos, MLB let them fold, they failed to vet its inept owner, and he ran a franchise into the ground. Kinda like Bud Selig, when he owned the Brewers, guess what, they still suck! Give Montreal back a team! I been to Montreal, what a city, people kinda hate Americans, but I was too drunk to care! ![]() ![]()

I really believe in general expansion of the MLB to be honest. As I believe that if the sport is stuck as an America only thing, it would lose popularity as other sports slowly gain traction in the US.
Baseball isn't huge in Canada, but that's probably because we only have 1 team, and they suck really badly. They did do very well viewership wise back when they did good in the 90s though (Toronto's sports teams are generally of a poor quality, we have to take whatever we get). but than, the team has declined to such a poor state a few years back that they had to resort to selling tickets for 2$ (and still barely get people watching). I believe in a general expansion of the MLB. some teams are struggling hard in the US, why not move them? The Marlins, Rays, A's, Astros and so on aren't doing very well financially in their current markets. In my opinion, a second team in Canada is an easy decision. Montreal's Expos were ruined by a strike and Omar Minaya (worst manager in baseball?) A team in Montreal or Vancouver would be a good choice, as they can both support a major league baseball team. (as seen here: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/201...ity-the-top-10 ) Mexico city would also be a great choice, there is enough talent in the Mexican league (officially classed as AAA) to fill out a major league team, and it could increase the sport's popularity in the Hispanic American population. Finally, if I was Bud Selig, I would even work with the Japanese leagues, making them into "major league" leagues. Play with them for a few weeks every season (162 games a season is boring if played against the same few teams every year). Fly all the American teams into a japan for 2 weeks or so, and do the opposite thing the next year. Hell, have the best North American team play the best Japanese team for the world series, at least it would make the name itself credible. the Japanese are actually very, very good, and can provide tough competition against the NL and AL with their more refined playing style PS: if your stadium is less than half full most of the time, it means you should re-locate. If your stadium is less than half full even though your team is doing great, than you should definitely relocate. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance |

I don't follow baseball as much as I used to. Loved going to see the Twins play at Met Staduim back in the 1960's! Killebrew, Allison, Oliva, Carew etc. Those were great games back then, except when the Yankees came to town. Couldn't shut down the likes of Mantle, Maris, Howard,Berra, Ford and company!
The All Star games back then were something to watch too. It wasn't often that you could see the likes of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Orlando Cepeda, Matty Alou, Ernie Banks, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson,Juan Marichal, playing together on one team! On the American League side, you would have Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle, Elston Howard, Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, Tony Oliva, Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Sam McDowell, Gary Peters, Camilo Pascual, Whitey Ford plus a host of others. Miss them days, lol |
