And there is the danger. The US has to spend billions of $ of R&D and then some chinaman steals the technology so that China can build their own version for a fraction of the cost because they did not have to spend much on R&D. And China has the funds and willpower to build more than the US can. Any initial technological advantage the US had is countered.

A lot of humans are seeking their own short term advantage over anything else. They would doom the world if there was a profit for them in it.
