I thank you guys for the replys, but I think you've missed the point about the tab missing. First, this guy has uninstalled and reinstalled SHIV a number of times now and the tab is missing in the stock game after reinstalling even before any mods are added. I've pointed out that mixing mods in the same game can cause problems. Could this be a problem with the registry by any chance.

get him to uninstall the game then manually open the computer files to go in and delete the files that are still left behind, then run a good registry cleaner before reinstalling the game. after reinstalling the stock game see what he has and don't overlook he may be using the wrong resolution which might just have the tab out of view on his monitor if he can 100% confirm all game files were deleted prior to doing a reinstall then and only then would I be looking at the dvd which could be tested by borrowing someone elses copy to do the reinstall if he has any friends with the game in my experience as far as dvds go they work or threy don't but I never heard of one having minor in game glitches |

About the DVD, dedicated software can be found on the internet to test file integrity in CD's / DVD's.
However Webster's advice may be spot on, it was my thought exactly: leftover files that need to be removed manually, and registry cleaned. There is plenty of free software online. I use Advanced System Care (free version) which performs these two operations (and many more btw): regular uninstall followed by a leftover clean-up (advanced), and registry cleaning. |

You might also ask him to check his monitor width. If for some reason it has been modified by the game, screen resolution what ever it might simply be that it is there but can not be seen due to size.
Just a thought. |

I'm more inclined to think the problem is in what Merc4ulfate pointed out.
Not to diminish the fact that a clean install is always good to do, and do it the right way. But, the fact that the tab is missing on the left side of the screen is a result of more than what a little mod soup would do. For one thing, in order for the tab to be missing, a mod would have to change the menu_1024_768.ini file to actually remove the tab completely......then through file corruption, end up leaving the tab out of the game. I know of no mod that removes the tab for the Position Keeper. No, I'm suspecting its the resolution the game is running in that's making the left side of the screen not visible. Primarily, the computer is clipping the screen. Is he running the game as a "Window", on top of his normal system screen? The game should be allowed to run "by itself", not put into a Window. What screen resolution is his default Windows OS? Is he trying to use a Laptop (which has all kinds of oddball screen resolutions) to play the game? What resolution in-game is he using? These types of questions are necessary when a problem like screen clipping is occurring. More than likely, its the screen resolution compared to the system resolution capabilities that's the problem.
