You've been spitting in my coffee....Well, that explains the rash...

Well holy cow, what did I do?

I post a thread I thought was very interesting about a remake of a American Civil War Sub which I thought might be of interest. This IS a submarine topic.

All goes well until someone insults a whole region of the country by inserting data which had nothing to do with the post's intent. I did not for a moment get the impression he was saying it in light humor.

And yes, IMO he WAS being a troll in the last part of his post. My post had nothing to do with who won or lost a war fought over 150 years ago, and there was no insult on my part of anyone from the north or south.

Excuse me--NOT. I stand firm on my position.

Let's pick on the paranoid delusional person who thought a vintage submarine replica was a torpedo, instead of each other.

I still say it looks like a barbecue/smoker.

Seriously, do not play innocent here as that article itself was highly inflammatory. It's theme was "look at all them northern idiots for freaking out over a civil war sub, are northerners and the government dumb or what.".

Hate to break it to many of you, but lots of people have no idea what the Hunley is or care. It sounds like one motorist was concerned and called it in, and that law enforcement checked up on it. Not everyone is into submarines, just as I am sure there are a lot of subjects each of us are totally ignorant about, and could be made to look like total morons about too.

As for law enforcement specifically, do you think they got a detailed enough description to identify the object as being a sub from this person, or a photograph? I highly doubt they did. Also I am sure there are plenty of law enforcement who know little about submarines. Plus they are obligated to investigate anything that is at all suspicious (particularly as terrorists do use all kinds of creative methods of attack).

Anyhow I am watching this thread, so I suggest everyone back off from the various hostilities going on in here.

Was it something we said

C'mon breadcatcher. We can't play if you take your ball home.

Perhaps the whole incident could have been avoided if the Hunley replica had livery plastered all over it. Then all the motorists would have said; "Look, it's a civil war stock car and it's sponsored by Tetley Tea, M & Ms and Lowes."

Besides, you know what they say about IQ?
It can only be measured by where you happen to be standing at the time.

A simple tarp would have done the trick.

I agree! Steve had every right to set him S8 for calling us southerners stupid. I saw not a thing wrong with your OP or title, just amazes me how touchy some get over a humorous news subject.

I know I'm smarter than most yankees here, Wolferz, Wern, etc. Heck, my dog is smarter than Wolferz

What a disparaging remark.
It wasn't fair to Bear. All animals are smarter than me.
Bear should awaken you at 04:30 with a rousing round of yapping.
Besides, I'm no Yankee. I only let the wife do that.
I may not be smart but, I'm wise. Wise enough to know how much I don't know. I learned nothing in school and I know it to this day.
I do know the difference between a submarine and a torpedo, though that isn't saying much.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have compared you to Bear, I was trying to make you feel better about yourself. Bear got a major make over today, haircut, nails, teeth cleaned. Maybe you should try it.

I've been to the Hunley museum several times and got inside the basic same model. I can't imagine taking it to sea...It does look like a BBQ cooker. Still, I can understand someone thinking it strange, hopefully he'll put a sign on it to avoid further Yankee misunderstandings.

Well, he does need regular bathing after hanging with you down by the river.

Frivolous feldercarb. Besides I don't have any teeth to clean.

Or cover it up with a tarp during transport. Y'all would need more advanced learnin in reed'n and rit'n to put a sign on it.

I can provide you with an example for a sign. Just copy it...
This are THE HUNLEY. A Civil war era replica submarine.
IT IS NOT A TORPEDER. PLEZE don' CALL THE AWTHORIT... COPS.

I think a better sign would be "Bubba's Southern Style BBQ - so soft you don't need teeth to eat it."
