Well, if you're going high tech with biometric readers or keypads, ya might as well install mag locks too. Mag locks are the rude surprise for any macho guy who thinks he can kick your door in.
![]() They'll even stop a SWAT team from using the ol' battering ram. Steel doors and jambs, not the deciduous varietay.

I like the idea of fingerprint locks .but if I come home with paint or other dirt on my hands would they work? then there is the problem of dead batteries at the wrong time.

If you want to make your home reasonably secure, if you're on a budget, you can do what Wolferz said. Just make sure the framework around the door is well built. I came upon an attempted burglary once where the homeowner had a steel frame and jamb but the entire framework around the door (including a palladium window) fell into the home when it was kicked in. It must've caught the burglar by surprise too because there were no signs of actual entry.
I always suggest extra long screws for the doorknob, striker, deadbolt assembly and door chain (if you use one). Also, make sure you purchase a bump proof lock set. http://peterhgregory.wordpress.com/2...-lock-bumping/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lock_bumping If you decide to get an alarm system, get an audible system, not a silent alarm. No home is burglar proof, as I have seen some pretty sophisticated alarm/lock systems bypassed or disabled. If you don't install an alarm system, you can still purchase a sign that says your home is protected by one and place it in a visible spot. "Beware of Dog" signs can be a deterrent too.

Figure out how a house is built.
Any construction worker can go through the wall faster then messing with a door! Unless you have motion sensors? No doorlock will stop a determained break in. Look at it this way.......... You place a 3.5 inch steel door in a wall that is made of .5 inch partical board, reinforced by fiberglass insulation, backed up by .5 inches of drywall! ![]() We are a Nation of idiots mislead by hucksters telling us how safe we are! |

Locks were only invented to keep the honest people honest.
Any determined burglar will find a way to get in. My money is on Frau Kaleun if she catches one in her home. HAI YAH! ![]()
