If you have a friend or relative who has an adjustable "hole-saw", that will work on poking clean holes through the desk. You just pop it on the end of a cordless drill. Works like a charm.

Come to think of it a power drill is probably something I should think about getting for myself. ![]() |

So I've heard. But I bought a Bosch.
![]() Actually looked online last night and this morning, found a small but highly rated one at Lowe's that was in stock with a price that had dropped from $149 to $99. There was only one left when I got there so maybe it was something that was being discontinued, I don't know. Anyway it looks quite sturdy and works but is small and light enough that it will be very handy for lots of jobs around the place. They also had a set of compatible screwdriver bits on sale, so I got that since that's likely the thing I'll end up using it for the most. Then I found some 2" desk grommets and a hole saw for the drill to make the necessary 2" holes. And checked with the guy in the tool department to make sure everything in my basket would actually work with everything else. So now all I need is someone to show me how to do the job without destroying the desk, my condo, or myself. I don't think I should be making my first foray into the wonderful world of power tools without adult supervision. ![]() That was my early morning taken care of, then I headed over to the condo with a carload of stuff I'd packed from the kitchen and started unpacking that and putting things away. Decided to give the old dishwasher a try on the utensils and some other stuff I was unpacking and that was... interesting. My best friend and I went to the store yesterday and got stuff for it but apparently the little "pods" of premeasured detergent I bought are just too much for the thing. I loaded it and started it up and then was standing right next to it at the sink handwashing some other things when I started feeling rather damp in the foot department. I thought to myself, what a slob you are, can't wash a few dishes without slopping water out of the sink and down onto the floor... ...but then I looked down and saw that what I was standing in was a growing puddle of suds that was overflowing out of the dishwasher. ![]() I turned it off and put some towels down and called my sister, who told me it was probably just too much detergent in the machine since, thankfully, it wasn't water gushing out - just suds! So I had to turn it back on and just let it overflow and sop it up until it stopped and the machine finally drained. Now I don't know what to put in there as far as detergent, I'll guess I'll try cutting one of the little "pods" in half and try again and put some towels down just in case. I also got all the parts and pieces of the desk and file cabinet laid out and made sure I had everything. Was gonna start putting some of it together but then it got overcast and rained all afternoon so, again, I didn't have enough light in that room to work by without it being a strain. But I did my first loads of laundry in my new place! Yay! No more hoarding quarters to make sure I've got enough to do laundry every week. ![]() And I got the carpet cleaned in the big bedroom and part of the upstairs hallway. So all in all, it was a good day. |

Nice, I love the writeups, this is very exciting.
BTW, I am sure you know this, but if you use anything other than dishwasher detergent in your dishwasher, the results will be similar to what you described. You may want to try some plain old dishwasher detergent. ![]()

![]() And yes, my sister's already reminded me of the time she got a similar call from my brother-in-law who decided to run the dishwasher when he was home alone and, finding that they were out of the "usual" stuff they put in it, filled the little dispensing chamber all the way up from the bottle of Dawn sitting next to the kitchen sink. Suds ahoy! ![]() I'll have to remember to start taking pictures as things develop. I still haven't gotten used to the fact that my newish phone has a halfway decent camera on it, lol. |
