And more than one u-boatman said similar bad things about Buchheim's book, so he really didn't have that high of a perch to preach from. Also Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock, the real 'Alte' of U-96 and Hans-Joachim Krug, 1WO of U-219, served as technical advisors on the movie.

Yes, the movie takes certain liberties. So does the book. The movie in it's full 293 minutes can be hard to sit through. The book can be hard to read. Both are worth it. I just wish the book's two sequels were available in English.

Already got those Glenn. It's the full GUI that I am after, where the officers are shown on the right instead of the left of the interface screen. I think it might be Hitmans GUI or OLC_GUI_127

Ah sorry I can't help. My icons now are department images on the right side. I did have face images (not stock) but can't remember what mod they came from. However I might just use the links I suggested. They look fairly good

I'll be changing and improving a few mods in my list next time I'm docked

MaGui has the officers on the right hand side too...although not the Das Boot ones but they can be added quite easily

Yes you are right, this is the one I was after. Much better than the Stock/GWX interface. Now downloaded and installed. Easier to manage as well with more information displayed. Still shows the Das Boot Officer Icons as well, that I installed previously.

Thank's Kelly

For you, maybe. I use FLB_Sales's 'Simfeeling 6-Dials' mod, which removes the interface entirely. Every single item on the screen becomes a slideout, so I don't have to see anything at all unless I need it. To me that's much more realistic.

Ooh that's sounds like a good mod I'm going to look into. I've recently been trying to take the interface off using 'del' key, making commands with the keyboard only putting it back on when I need it

But Buchheim served on a U-Boat as an official naval correspondent,as well as a lieutenant on minesweepers and destroyers during WW2,I think this more than qualifies him to "preach" from a perch.

That's my point. He was not a "real" u-boat sailor, and some (not all) of the men who were there said he got it wrong. Don't mistake me; I love the movie and I love the book. I was only pointing out that some of the criticisms he levelled at the movie were also levelled at his book by some of those he served with.
