Hey there, Just wanted to introduce myself and say I've been lurking around here for a few months and have been more than impressed with the amount of knowledge out there. First off let me say I have been playing SH4 for quite sometime and have enjoyed it thoroughly. However I have been using stock and seeing how a lot of folks on here scoff at that I thought I would ask for some opinions on mods. I am somewhere in the middle when it comes to realism, I really enjoy trying to get things as real as possible but not so far that I use manual targeting or have asked my friends to call me Captain haha. I guess what I am looking for is something that enhances the experience yet still provides playability so as I don't spend 3 months on patrol with only a merchant to show for it. Anyway thanks for the help and I appreciate the assistance.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like TMO with RSRDC is your cuppa. You can download them and the patches that go with them (and JSGME, the mod installer) from the SubSim downloads sction.

Welcome to the boat mate.
![]() You might try TMO by itself for a time, RSRD really cuts down on the random traffic but it really does a very good job on all the naval battles. If you're going to just patrol and take whatever you fine, just TMO. RSRD models real traffic so not so many random convoys or ships but when you find them they are bigger more realistic. If you want to partake in the real battles of WWII than RSRD is great. Magic

Welcome to Subsim!
I recommend TMO, RSRDC, and Traveller Mod Pack. Cards fan eh? St. Louis Cardinals are the way to go man. ![]() In the case that it's a different Cardinals team, you should watch the STL Cards instead. ![]()

Welcome aboard. No one scoffs at stock other than the buggy nature of it. Lurker specifically played stock and created RSRD for stock only. Eventually it was modded to work with the larger mod packs. Then there is the stock game GFO mod by Webster that generally corrects the bugs of the stock game. However, these larger mod packs do change the entire face of the game and you will notice it immediately. For what you are looking for I would recommend TMO.

Just remember that RSRD has a bit less traffic than TMO stand alone. IRC TMO uses a spiced up version of RSRD. More traffic and some nasty surprises.

![]() I'm an RFB/RSRDC fan myself. That said, every supermod that's been made for SH4 has much to recommend it. One thing you can do is use MultiSH4 to easily run several installations and try them all. Oh, I also play u-boats with Operation Monsun.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and greetings, I appreciate the warm welcome. I think I will take your advice and try a couple out and see what I think of them. Also another question for you. I never got the U boat expansion pack since I didn't really have any interest in that theatre but now it seems I need patch 1.5 instead of the old 1.4 which I'm still running. Is there an way around this or do I have to suck it up and go purchase it?
By the way Red October I'm definitely a St. Louis fan, go redbirds! |

its a MUST to have v1.5 since 98% of all the mods for the game depend on that version to work properly and since you don't have that you couldn't have tried my GFO mod and that would be the first mod I suggest you try so you see what a "fixed" game plays like get v1.5, you will get a different feel from the v1.5 game and it will be noticeable so try that first then try my GFO mod to get used to how the new game runs, the ubm v1.5 ad-on will fix many "issues" with the game and my GFO mod fixes a whole lot more plus adds a few extras while maintaining the stock feel. after you get used to it you should try TMO if you want more of a challenge and RSRDC is good but its going to pigeon hole the ships into certain areas so if you don't know where the shipping lanes are then its not easy to find ships but its easy enough to google that info. with rsrdc the ocean will seam empty and boring compared to playing stock unless you are in the right areas. |

If you enjoy the game and want to take advantage of most of the newer mods, suck up and go buy it. However, there are versions of TMO and RSRD for 1.4.

Welcome aboard!
![]() I use TMO an RSRD. A lot of people use Optical Targeting Correction (OTC) and really like it. There are a lot of smaller mods also that help you tweak your game. Quit hogging the radio, put it on the PA, and share the game with the rest of us. Now get back to work cleaning the battery posts.

Thanks Again for the all the help. I will certainly look into the expansion pack but being a cheapskate (haha) I might just try to see if I can make it work as it is and see how that goes
