The video clip is not part of SH3 Commander. Commander does allow you to pick your sub number, patrol grid, manage your crew, awards, promotions, better than SH3 does. It also has a option to randomize the gramophone tracks, randomize the crush depth of your sub so you just never know how deep you really can go. SH3 Commander really is a must have in my opinion. To paraphrase Karl Malden "Never leave base without it."

All the boats I served on had a "theoretical" crush depth....not that we were ever eager to test it. No one knew for sure and SH3Commander brings that to the game...I have had to go deep on a few occasions to elude depth charges and not knowing what the boat could take really had me nervous....you got to love SH3Commander. Couldn't agree more that it is an essential must have for SH3. Haven't lost a crewman to a bar fight yet Wish there was a SH4Commander too.

I took a VIIC/41 to over 400m once. I was sweating that one...

I've been unable to repeat that feat

Not to mention adjust parameters such as deck gun reload times and wave height, gives your captain a birth date and city, has a randomized crew name database with 1.7 billion possible names and my favorite: every single ship you sink gets an historically accurate name, crew number (including how many died in your attack) and cargo loadout.

I always say that what supermods do for your game, Commander does for your career.

no but if you retire or survive it will display a "fate" of your commander in his personnel file

where he went after the war, what line of work he went into, where he currently lives of when he died etc

One of my commanders was held as a POW until his release in 1946 then eventually became an admiral in the bundesmarine and retired in 1970, settling in some small town in Germany where he died in his sleep in 1990

the variations are really pretty unlimited

SH3 commander is one of the great additions to SHIII

Besides everything mentioned so far I particularly like the choice of five options when choosing a fatigue model for the crew. SH3Commander was a stroke of genius
