Respect thy enemy ... looks like a nice ship has been built in Iran

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran launched a domestically built destroyer in the Caspian Sea on Sunday, its first deployment of a major warship in the oil-rich region, state TV reported.

guided missile destroyer Jamaran-2 in the port city of Anzali, about 250 kilometers (150 miles) northwest of Tehran.

The 1,400-ton destroyer, which has a helicopter landing pad, is 94 meters (yards) long and can cruise at 30 knots. It is equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles as well as anti-aircraft batteries and sophisticated radar and communications terminals, the report said.

I'm thinking it means torpedo or counter measures, but seriously "no"

I was a soundman on nuc's, but I was a lookout on the diesel boat and did fail to see a helicopter one time, due to looking at how beautiful the blue Pacific ocean was.

I clicked on the news on Bings front page that a new guided missile destroyer had been launched in Iran and that picture came up and my first thought was wow I can't believe they built something that nice.

USS SCOTT was the last but one KIDD class guided missile destroyer. Originally built for Iran, the ship was first named NADER

Reminds me of an old tale of a US boat which was observing a Russian exercise, it was making a regular quick periscope check when the XO noticed the sea had suddenly become quite calm and flat. He angled the scope up just in time to see an ASW helo lowering its dipping sonar on him.

I believe the quote from the CO after that was:

"Gentlemen, in light of this mornings events I am inclined to remind you that we are supposed to be observing their anti-submarine exercises, not participating in it."
