I know what you said. Saint Patrick's day isn't a legal holiday. What exactly would you ban? Drinking on Saint Patrick's day? Celebrating the feast of one particular saint because of the way some people act?

How would you go about banning it without facing accusations of being anti-Irish? You seem serious about it, so please explain.

Then why do you imply this is a ban of drinking?

Maybe we should let the victims of all those drunk driving accidents explain it. Oh wait, that's right they can't explain anything because they're dead just like even more will be killed this Sunday.

As for being serious on an internet forum that's all relative. I'd be happy if bars were just prevented from advertizing it. I think if it weren't for the hype the body count would be much lower. Ditto with New Years celebration (the number one killer social event).

Because banning a holiday that celebrates drinking is no different than banning drinking for a day. The one is as sensible - or as senseless - as the other.

How is that any different from drunk driving accidents on any other day? Driving while drunk is already illegal. Read your gun control arguments.

Would you be happy with banning all bar advertizing at all? Exactly how selective do you want to be? Perhaps drinking should be banned next on Friday and Saturday nights.

That's a cop out. You might as well claim that I advocate executing drinkers.

Numbers for one. Bring the percentage of drunk driving accidents down to what it is on any other day and I'd be happy.

And yet there is a sizable percentage of this country willing to shred the constitution in the hope that it saves far less lives.

I'd be happy with just the advertizing. Again you try and redefine my position. Maybe you'd be happier if we just removed all drinking restrictions completely?

Actually I was going to suggest that. Not drinkers, but drunk drivers.

But no, it's not a cop out. Bannng one day is no different than banning another, if it's for the same reason.

But why make the distinction? Is it good to prevent a thousand deaths but less good to prevent a hundred?

That's true, but the point was that you're making the same arguments here that you (and I) condemn there.

No, I'm just pointing out the selectivity of your argument. I did combine two thoughts into one argument. I apologize for making it complicated. So we should ban all advertising of alcohol, or just all advertising for bars. Either way, do you think that would make a difference?

What restrictions are there now? It's already illegal to drink and drive, as it should be. I just find your desire to ban a holiday that doesn't even exist to be absurd.

When I was in IEMT school, we used to fight in order to pull duty on St Patrick's day. We used to call it "Amateur Night"

Always good for a few motor vehicle accidents - good for field IVs and Intubations.

Throw in some knife wounds "I love the sound of a sucking chest wound in the evening"

A bunch of ghouls we were. But we had to log in so many field procedures.

St. Patricks day ranked higher then new years eve.

So drink up, there are EMT students that need the field calls.

Just don't take an innocent smarter person with you. Please.

We're going to fight about St. Patrick's Day? Looks like we'll fight about anything around here.

In before "poor snakes".

That's the problem. I could care less for the drunk themselves.

The point I'm getting at is St. Paddies day is promoted by the bar industry to lure people to their establishments which causes more people to drive drunk and more people to die.

You stop promoting bad behavior and it usually decreases. Seems to work with cigarettes. I see no reason it couldn't work with bars as well.

Two Irishmen hired an open cockpit aeroplane to fly over Dublin on St Patrick's Day.
As they were winging their way through the air, O'Toole turned to his friend, Murphy and said, 'Murphy, I'm going to fly upside down.'
'Begorrah, O'Toole', shouted Murphy,' don't do that, we'll fall out.'
'No we won't,' responded O'Toole, 'I'll still talk to you.'

How much will a night out on the town cost per person?

example in the USA for a movie night it would be $7.50 for per ticket and another $7.00 or so for popcorn and $4.50 for a drink = $20.00 per person plus transportation to and from the theater.

How much for ya'll?

Using your criteria I'd say about £20.....$30
