Default Back after a loooong R&R

Hi Guys:
Been a Silent Hunter fan since #1 and stopped playing about 3 years ago after my PC crashed and I migrated to PS3. But been missing subs since. Just ordered SHV from amazon via Subsim and it should be delivered today. Only thing I'm worried about is I have a laptop-don't know how this will run.

I guess the thing to do is install from CD and see how it runs before even thinking of any mods. Hopefully it will be at least playable..wish me luck

Welcome back PULSEOX.

When you do the install it, the installation software will check your computer and tell you if it will run SH5. If you have an i7 or equivalent AMD CPU over 3.0GZ, a 64bit OS, and more than 8GBs of DDR3 RAM you should be good to go. Oldest GFX card that will run with SH5 is a GF 8800GT or equivalent AMD card.

I'm running it on XP Home, 2.82 i5 cpu, 4GBs of DDR3 Ram (can't use all 4GBs with a 32bit system), and a Zotac GF 8800GT 1GB GFX card. I'm at the low end but it still runs ok... so far. The amount of mods you install can slow SH5 down too.

Default thanks

It's gonna be close....I don't know about the on board graphics card- the computer is a Gateway infiniti...but I figured if I cant' run it -at least it was pretty cheap-I'll just stow it until I invest in a new PC!

Thanks!

I'm amazed...it's running smoother than any Silent Hunter game I've had so far.....(haven't added any mods tho)

crap

I spoke too soon...the video intro and the first cutscene work great...but as soon as gameplay starts it's stutter city. The checklist recommended a upgrade to my video card-everything else was green checked.

Guess I need to see if it's capable of an upgrade.

Try using anti-lag first. Do a forum seach for it (probably find in SH5 mods forum).

Default Crap

Antilag didn't help-nor did Gamebooster. I'm shelving SHV for now-just ordered SHIII throu Subsim from Amazon-but I realized after I ordered it-I ordered the WXP DVD-now I'm afraid I'm gonna have problems running it on Windows 7.

Done the same, just came back to SH5 last night, starting afresh on a new install of Windows, I had the same stutter until with anti-lag, I set the following;

RenderAheadLimit=2
FPSlimit=25 << this seemed to help.

My rig is i5 750@2.67
ATI 5750
8gb Ram

Not the best PC, but it seems to cope with SH5 on those settings with everything high, doesn't like smoke effects though, that causes the GPU to have a dicky fit

For anyone who is running XP, Vista or Windows 7. All versions of SH 3, 4, 5 will run on Windows 8 So if you are thinking of buying a new computer, you should have no problems. The install for SH5 points the install to C/Ubisoft/SH5 SH3 points to C/Programme Files (x86)/Ubisoft/SH3. My Gold edition copy of SH4 install, points to C/Ubisoft/SH4. No problems with Windows 8 running any of the games. Unfortunately SH2 or Deystroyer Command, will load but won't run. Well I cant get those to run on my computer so I suppose these games are too old for the latest Windows 8. But hey, who still plays these games now anyway?

Hummmm...makes me wonder if I messed up installing the anti-log files...I wasn't really sure where to put them...think I put them in the cfg folder in the program files...is that where they go?
