A tip... do Breaking The Fortress before selecting any other mission when running OHII v2.0 full. It's only a small time frame to sink a Capitol Ship at Scappa Flow. I got mine on 01/10/39.

I am running stock/vanilla.

I wanted to get a decent amount of gameplay in before I tried out any mods

With SH5, the gameplay doesn't really begin until you mod it.

That is so true. After experimenting with SH5 the first time I found that out too. It's a waste of time trying to play without any mods. Stock SH5 is too broken to even bother.... the CD is only good for a beer coaster.

Mods will fix and improve SH5 so it's playable and enjoyable.

I do want to add mods, but i am at the low end of the system requirments. Any lite mods that would be worthwhile?

Anyway still any suggestions of completing the first mission i may have missed?

If your PC is not powerful enough to run OHII Full, i think you can find OHII Light

I'm on an old 2.33 duo core system, and the game is clunking along quite steadilly with (please excuse the lack of recognition for authors):

IRAI
OHII Lite
BRF (full)
Enhanced Funnel Smoke
SH5 Lifeboats
Reduced Mission Tonnage
Radio Messages
Equipment Upgrades Fix
Torpedo Splash
Sobers Smoke Screen.

I also had TDW's UI, but disabled it because it cluttered my screen too much (small screen). I also was running Dynamic Environment successfully, but disabled it due to the nights being too dark for my taste.

The base change thing hit me a day or so ago...I was returning to Bremen I think it was, with damage and in need of a resupply, and as I pulled into the port area, I didn't get the docking symbol...the 'home port' had switched to Brittany just as I was coming into port, so it was a quick refuel and then another long slog back the way I came...grrrrrr....

you can't use this mod - Reduced Mission Tonnage and OHII together.. this mod is for stock only..

I see you have equipment upgrades fix. Alone it's not enough imo.
You should try in this order:
Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_byTheBeast
Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_Patch_1 (available by date) V8 by sober
#Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_Patch_1_HotFix
...to play with historical equipments avalaible by date
