Hm.... :hmm: ....Why am I not impressed with these screeenshots. Seems like there are too many old world war II sims and not enough modern sims... or at least cold war...

... why is everyone obsessed with the tatics used 60+ years ago?

Everyone ? So you too ?

Because for lots of people it is way more fun to look through for example a periscope than to stare at a sonar screen. Possibly b

This is a question I often ask other wargamers---why is WWII so hugely popular as a gaming era? I think the answer is that WWII is the last, no-holds barred war where you had massive land/sea/air battles. Sure, with each passing year, the tactics and equipment of WWII becomes less and less relevant to the modern-era of warfare (all things being equal), but it still remains the defining military experience of recent history. And when it comes to naval warfare, it is the most recent period of history where subs and ships actually got a chance to do what they were built to do---destroy other ships en masse. So, I guess you could say that WWII is the paradigm of warfare on a massive scale simply by default. And I guess that is a good thing too!

Tactics used 200 years ago at trafalgar are still used today, more simply most commanders of ships try to be Nelson and follow him as in britian he is the unspoken guru or naval warfare a hero to britian.

Just exaggerating. It just.... why do all the good graphics go toward WWII games? Can't a modern navy sim get some top of the line graphics as well? Its just not fair

Yes i agree. Now only if we could convince Ubisoft Romainia to start devlopment on a modern navy game, using the SH3 or 4 engine.

I second that notion! Though I hear the UbiSofts sales of SHIII was disappointing enough with SHIII that they would probably frown at the idea

If sales were disappointing I don't think they would be going for SH4.

I think SH4 is supposed to get the sales SH3 didn't without writing a whole new engine they can pull this off with upgrades to the SH3 engine and produce a new game to make money without costing as much as it did to make SH3.

Also, modern combat has become more sophisticated, and therefore harder for the player, which gives it a more limited audience if it must be done with some realism. You also see this with flightsims. The WW2 sims are not too hard to get started, even if fairly realistic, but for modern sims you have the option of either dumbed down, or you have to study weapon and sensor systems before you can fly missions.
