The WWI U-Boat- in Lake Michigan

The UC-97, a WWI minelayer is in just 300 ft of fresh water off of Highland Park, Illinois (a bit north of Chicago). It appears to be in relatively good shape, the company that found it A&T salvage, just doesn't seem that interested in raising it anytime soon. But I sure am, it would be the only WWI U-Boat on display and would look real nice next to the U-505 at MSI. What are they thinking-go get it!

While i would curtainly appreciate it if it would be salved, i must say that the all interiours were ripped of befor it was scuttled. So when it would be raised and put on display it would be just an empty hull. For me interesting nevertless.

Whatever the cost to salvage UC-97, I think it's worth it, certainly for Chicago, which would have two U-boats, one the only type IX left, the other the only WWI U-boat and only minelayer to boot! If it has no interior, who cares, it would still look great in the Windy City- better than it does in Lake Michigan anyway.

Couldn't they just recreate the interior? Shouldn't be too difficult since it was probably sparse and simple...

LOLII It was as complex and cramped as the WWII counterparts. Theres is almost no documentation from the interiours, except some general plans and a few photos. Never enough to recreate it. I'don't know how much of an attraction it will be without interiours.

Even empty interiours would be a very valuable source for me. I mean so bad is the information situation about this u-boats.

Any way you slice it, UC-97 is an international treasure and leaving it on the bottom just doesn't make sense!
