Manual Range input
Is there a mod that adds a more precise range finder(manual).I know there are a lot of ways to come to the accurate solution, but personally i like to get my data from the plot(on 100% realism).I would like to use stadimetar to find the range but the problem is that with range/baring update,u have to update aob(it doesn't update automatically, and it should). So i need to input a range and aob that the target will have in a certain point in space, and turn on the pk(when the point of the target which i wish to be zero impact point crosses the chrossairs). That is why i need to input precise manual range.Otc mod has a good one,but all i need is rangefinder. So if there is not one,i would like to make a request for one(tmo, rfb and rsrdc compatible), and i am sure that i am not the only one that needs it.

When I need to manually input a range, I've used the 3d TDC/Radar mod. It's built into the latest version of TMO.

Haven't thought of that.I didn't know that u can set the range precisely via left click when the radar is off(underwater attack). Thanks

"Optical Targeting Correction" has a Range Dial added to the Attack Data Tool. It's there to add a range up to 6200yds found from the use of the OTC Rradar, or when measuring with the scopes Telemeter lens divisions. Both Radar, and the periscopes/TBT lens divisions can measure range accurately with OTC. Just remember, before "sending" the estimated range, set the scopes compass dial to the targets estimated relative bearing. Both are "sent" at the same time when you mouse click the "send range" button on the Attack Data Tool.
Here's an image of the OTC periscope station showing the Range Dial: ![]() The image shows the scope is retractred. The lighted retracted scope background allows you to see the scopes "compass dial". This gives you the advantage of setting both range and relative bearing (two of the four parts of the manual targeting solution) while submerged, or with the scope down. If you additionally "send" the target's estimated speed and AoB, the Position Keeper/TDC can be turned "on" keeping track of the target without needing to surface. Although I'd like to double check my solution after a bit, before committing to firing. The other reason OTC is important when using manual targeting is with the use of the stadimeter. The added corrections to the periscope Field of View, and the corrections to the target ships height dimension make the stadimeter much more accurate. Yes, there are still plenty of ways to miss getting a "nut's on" range finding, but that's the reality of true life. No finding of the four parts of a firing solution were ever absolute. If they were, we wouldn't find the game so addictive.

I am aware of your mod(i have mentioned OTC in the first post).I'm glad that somebody had realized the necessity for a better optics.I use MaxOptics IV for TMO_2 and SCAF for RSRDC v502_2.0 done by you. They really make a difference and enable me to start my plotting much earlyer.I do not trust the sonar, and i use it only for calculation in blind weather. That being said ,i am a creature of habit ,and otc changes a lot of things that I am used to by now.Manual input range and range periscope markings(great stuff) are all i need.Anyways, i have tried to give it another go,but i could not find it.Cant download Otc again from game front.
Reason:Firefox can't find the file at http://media1.gamefront........etc |

Salac, you could simply pick out Cap'n Scurvy's range ring from OTC and make it into a separate mini-mod. I did that, because I wanted to use the range ring in my RFB campaign and OTC for RFB is WIP.

SCAF was made to correct the height dimensions of the ships, making for a more accurate stadimeter range finding. But, it missed the mark too because I had no idea the game is inconsistent with it's range figuring. The game calculates a different range when using the stadimeter depending on where the target is in relationship to the sub. If the target is at the stern the range finding is different than when it's at the bow, even though the ship is at the same distance in both directions. Port or Starboard, the range is found somewhere in between. Not at all what we expect from the use of an authentic tool that didn't do this in real life. OTC corrects both of these issues. It also provides an authentic tool (the Range Omnimeter) to help in using the "scaled" Telemeter Divisions in providing an accurate range determination. It reworks the Radar station, providing an accurate/easy way of determining range/relative bearing when using it. Much like the stock game "range periscope markings", the stock Radar was nothing more than eye candy. It wouldn't find a target even if it was within visual range, nor would it give a correct range estimate on the A-Scope screen (the only screen that offered some sort of range scale). The stock radar was just for show. I too am a "Map Plotting Hound". I love working with the "No map contacts updated" option enabled, allowing for a map plot on a clean map. I made a tutorial in 2007 called "High Realism Tutorial", to show how to do it. It's been revised since, but it still helps in figuring a targets heading, AoB when done right. As far as the OTC download goes, it's not at the http://media1.gamefront....... address. If your using TMO 2.5, and RSRDC v502, the OTC edition you need is found HERE. However if you live somewhere outside the United States, there are restrictions from GameFront on the countries it downloads to. Maybe you're one of those? There are ways around this though. edit: One more thing, the Sonar is exactly right on if you take the reading yourself, and "send" the range to the Position Keeper. Pay no attention to whatever measurement the sonarman gives you if you ask him, nor to the measurement that is readable in the "Message Box". Taking the measurement yourself, and sending the range to the TDC/Position Keeper is accurate. The accurate range will appear in the PK's Range readout every time. Just be aware of the pitfalls that go along with the sonar when an angry destroyer is about!

Quite a bit different than yours. Obviously, the fact that you're not in one of the regional countries that GameFront works with, is the reason your taken to the wrong address. A fellow member of this community named Klaus (living in Romania) has used an app named Spotflux from www.spotflux.com. It's a free privacy program that makes your where abouts unseen to the Internet sites you use. He claims it "works every time for GameFront, and YouTube, although it slows down the connection a little". I've never tried it, so I can't give you any other ideas on what or how it works.

The address that I'm taken to is the same. When i click the download i get the error with media 1 gamefront...
Like i said this is recent occurence. It has nothing to do with who the GameFront works with or not. What ever is going on is malicious in nature. It doesn't matter anyway...psst its just a game ![]() |

I just tried the download for Optical Targeting Correction for RSRDC v502, the GameFront site worked as it should (even though just this afternoon it couldn't find the file?!).
They must have had a problem on their end causing files to not be found when asked to download.

Some countries outside of U.S are blocked recently.I have been trying but to no avail.Somebody should upload your modes to some other file sharing site.
P.S:Basically you can't download from Gamefront if you live in one of the following: Argentina Mexico Chile Spain Thailand Poland Colombia Brazil France Venezuela Italy Peru Uruguay Malaysia Turkey Indonesia India Ecuador Costa Rica Honduras Hungary Philippines Portugal Romania Russian Federation Serbia Singapore Sweden Japan --------------------------------- Supposedly because Gamefront had trouble selling ads there and was faced with heavy traffic at the same time Now, how valid is this info i dont know Last edited by salac_78; 02-24-13 at 03:41 AM. |

May I suggest to send Sailor Steve a PM with the download details, so he can upload it here to the subsim download section.
