Julian Assange police guard cost nears £3m

The cost of a round-the-clock guard outside the Ecuadorean embassy in London, where Julian Assange took refuge last June, has reached almost £3m, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Scotland Yard estimated costs of £2.3m in pay that would have covered normal duties, and £600,000 on overtime.

The Wikileaks website founder faces extradition to Sweden over sexual assault allegations, which he denies.

Mr Assange, 41, fears onward extradition to the US.

He believes he could face charges there over the release of top secret documents by Wikileaks, whose publication of a mass of leaked diplomatic cables has embarrassed a number of countries.

Sweden wants to question him over allegations that he sexually assaulted two female ex-Wikileaks supporters while he was in Stockholm to give a lecture in 2010.

Just imagine what really important work those guards could have done in those watchdog hours, and what really important issues those 3 million could have been used for.

This comes from trying to think by emotions instead by intellect.

Nöö-höö...! Empathy. Mitleid, Mitgefühl. Something like compassion. Dictionary gave me both terms, plus several others.

It's insane to waste public money and service time over this staged affair. Do you know how much money a banker must burn before getting farewelled with a 3 million golden handshake?



Not too much, I assume. 2007 Merrill Lynch'S boss Stanley O'Neill was announcing a quarterly loss of 8 billion, and had to go. To bolster the impact at the bottom of the social ladder a bit, the farewell fee for him was 161 million. US Citigroups loss at that third quarter was 17.5 billion, and thr boss Charles Prince had to go. Instead of a cookie he got 40 million, plus a free bureau, office, secretary, chauffeur for the next couple of years.

I can only recommend: if you want to burn tax money, then do it with style. Do it BIG. Style is all! Place a complete regiment of paradroppers around the Ecuadorian embassy, keep a fightherwing of Typhoons in reserve, and in case Assange still escapes, hold the Tridents on the ready.

There are valid warrants for the guy's arrest. He is abusing a tool of diplomatic relations to avoid criminal investigation. The embassy are in violation of diplomatic conventions in harbouring him.

I'm not saying that there should be a human ring of policemen around the embassy, but there should be a presence..

I'm not sure how it can be applied but I hope the costs he is forcing the UK tax payer to incur are eventually taken into consideration.

What I mean, is this: it's peanuts by today's perverted standards, and the hype is hopelessly blown beyond proportions. We let others commit far greater crimes and damages, and then even reward them with 1o times and 50 times as much gold than this operation so far has costed.

And Tchocky, a warrant on basis of a staged plot, is no legal warrant in serving principles of the law and justice system, but is only part of the plot, serving the function to make it a successful plot. and it works like that since one year now: Assange is effectively put on ice, with Wikileaks being marginalised. Mission objective achieved. The objective was to but him on ice, or to get him under total and irreversible control and into custody.
