You're going to get a ton of different opinions on your question, but here's my suggestions:
1. Read the manual so that at least you understand the technology involved, it's strengths, it's weaknesses, and how it works for you. Make sure to learn about TMA, the differences between the different types of sonar, and the basics of naval tactics. 2. Start with the 688i. Once again. Read the manual to learn what is at each station. Once you've mastered the 688i, move onto the Seawolf. It's an easy jump up. From there, I would move to the Russian Akula and then to the Kilo. Finally, I would learn the FFG and then the aircraft. 3. There's a fantastic guide to learning the FFG in the downloads section here. The FFG is the most complicated thing to learn in this game. 4. For each platform, make sure you read the section of the manual that covers all the stations for that platform.
