Default Realistic burning ship flames

I just downloaded Vickers03 Ship smoke mod and loaded it via JSGME. I am very satisfied with everything except the flames that appear on a burning ship. They look square and "boxy", not very realistic at all, especially when looking at them up close at short range, or with high magnification thru the periscope. I searched the forums to see if anyone had a possible solution, and someone suggested tweeking the PARTICLES file in the game, however that file was printed in some weird script that I could neither read or understand, let alone change. Is there another file that can be adjusted, or is there a "realistic fire and flames" mod out there somewhere?

Thanks for the 3D Editor. The problem is that since I don't know how to mod yet, I'm not sure how it works. The editor didn't come with step-by-step instructions for noobs like me.

often square blotchy grafics arte from a mod soup issue so uninstall all of your mods then follow the mod soup fix.

that should cure the grafics problem (if it is game related)

if it isnt game related it is either the grafics card itself (unlikely) or a mod conflict causing it

Wesbster, what do you mean by "...then follow the mod soup fix"? I don't understand. Thanks!

I had a smoke & flame mod (unreleased based on TMO) - sadly it was accidentally deleted; I will try to recreate it in a few days. If you want to edit the flames & smoke yourself download S3ditor - it's much easier than trying to hex edit.

I just read your “mod soup” fix …Very interpreting, as the German said in Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. How did you think out-of-the-box on that one?

I'm using S3D to access the PARTICLES.DAT and MATERIALS.DAT files, but don't know what to do with the numbers to make the fire and smoke look better. Anyone know how to tweek this?

Just guess and check to be honest. If it doesn't look right, then change the numbers in the opposite directions and so forth. I think that's how most of the modders have found the perfect values.
Cheers
