Not news. My teacher in elementary school expected us to be able to draw map of Europe with countries, major cities, mountains, seas, lakes and rivers appropriately marked. World map had to have countries and continents right. I spent sometime with world atlas...

We never had to do that but I grew up with a love of collecting and studying maps - have always had at least a couple of general atlases on the shelf as well as more specific ones for various places or historical eras.

However I gave up on keeping track of Europe when Czechoslovakia disappeared.
