1- Have you used all your torpedoes?
2- Or have you got some left and they wont load?

Only two options are left then, surface the boat and use the deck gun or quit the mission.

Then you can go to the nearest base and refill your torps, you can keep doing that the whole war without ever going back to your home port.

not true, just like in career mode you still have bases all over you just dont have a "home port" IIRC so you can refuel and refit all you want.

go to one of the boxes with the blue anchors then when you get close enough to be in range of it you will get a prompt to refit your sub.

NOTE - new players often make the mistake of not knowing when you refit it fills your torpedo reserves but it doesnt reload your tubes for you so you need to start the tube reloading process then refit again to have a fully loaded torpedo allotment, otherwise you will find yourself out there with empty tubes and after loading them out at sea you find out your reserves will be mostly depleted.

Its true if you want to play the single mission as realistic as possible, its not true if you keep going back and forth refilling torps and treating the sim as an arcade game.

To show how realistic the game is, you can refit torps why underwater.
I was in mass battle near Tulagi once and the escorts were terrible, they would chase me right into Tulagi. I could hit refit near the base and get a full load of torps and never have to surface to deal with them, plus minor repairs and a full battery charge....

wether you are playing a single mission or a career doesnt matter, because just as in real life when you run out of torps you dont have to end the game if you head to the nearest resupply just as i mentioned.

that isnt ANY different then in a career when you run out of torps? now you are right if you use TC to zip back and forth refitting it can be like an arcade game but only so far as you are acting without orders because you are doing the same thing as you would in a career its just the areas and targets are picked by the player.

the sort term player doesnt have hours to spend so they like a quick mission and often feel like going patroling at there own discretion to seek out targets of oportunity or decide for themself what area to patrol. now that is not very realistic but not all that unrealistic that you couldnt recieve orders to patrol on your own initiative.

some missions are near enemy bases so maybe he wants to go searching near them for targets of opportunity or maybe even harbor raiding. wether you think that is a good thing to do or not he isnt asking your permission or your opinion just for the info to play the game as he wants to play it so there is no need not to give him the help he is requesting

It was the secret underwater entrance that opens into an old volcanic cave.
