Thanks for the info guys. So what were some of the reasons for the excluded mods. I understand why portalcraft was blocked due to the lag, and a couple seemed pretty useless, what about the others?

I'm on the peninsula west of Dowly and North of spawn.

I called dibs on the oilwell on the mainland near my place. But Spike settled near there also. So we might need to come to an arrangement of mutual use. But I am nowhere near ready to start using it. I'm probably going to go geothermal first. Also there are a couple of oil-wells further up north in the sea that I could use.

I can't see my place on the map

And I'm having an interesting dilemma, I can't raise animals for their meat and other things because they don't show up in the desert and I might have to swim them out but I need them in pairs so I can multiply (unless someone can spawn two of each? )

I'm exploring up north would that be causing the lag?

Possibly, since it has to generate new chunks, furthermore your connection to the server is not particularly brilliant so that will also create lag for you.

Optifine Ultra C2 seems to be working with Nether, didn't crash when I tried it.
Same with crashes when making a new SSP world.

But still, use at own risk.

Anywho, here's the settings I'm using Obie:

Dear diary,

Today, I made my first mass fabricator which I placed next to my compressor.
It didnt look quite right sitting there next to the inferior machine, so I fired up
my diamond drill and broke it, so I could move.. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Danke, I upgraded my java to version 7 and that fixed my crashes, I'll probably hold off a few days before trying optifine and backup the folder just in case too but thanks for the tips.

It only takes one piece of seed, carrot or wheat to lure them.

p.s. Be alert though. They have a tendendy to walk/swim the entire journey back if not confined.

Gravisuite is supposedly really over powered
Gregtech is ridiculously expensive.

As for the others, I have no clue. I was kind of hoping for Thaumcraft myself.

Yeah I will be working on making an enclosure before I try to locate and swim them out, too bad there isn't an Ark mod Shove 2 of each on and get them to my Desert.

Mostly to take load of the server. This isn't a $2000,- blade neatly tucked in an air conditioned datacenter plugged into fiber optic.

Particularly Thaumcraft seems rather intensive, since it affects the whole world by default. We also kinda decided against the more "magical" mods, sticking with a more industrial theme.
