By the way, how does one add an avatar pic. I went thru every edit I could find and couldn't figure out how to do it. I deleted my pics at UBI lest they decide they owned them.

Subsim has been here with a lot of much appreciated help and a large downloadable mod collection for quite sometime, and you all knew it. So cork the bottles and get back to your stations.

@ fireftr18, I know a lot about boats, the front is the bow and the back is the stern, and if you try to assign me a job I'll throw you out of one of the little round windows on the side.
Every one gets a special job. Now get to the aft torpedo room to set up your bunk. We designated it as the "lady's cabin" so you're sharing with SheWolf. Since she has seniority on the boat, you get to keep it clean, and keep the aft head clean. Looks like Armistead came up with a job for you also. And if you keep complaining about getting jobs, I'll make you clean the engine room.

Check the link and all will be clear as mud.

Ubi paid for the other forum. No such luxury here. Generosity will gain you officers privliges.

Just like in Uncle Sam's navy, officers don't get free meals.

Glad to see you bigdog, er, uh, rmr. With donna and SheWolf on board together, we need someone to keep them under control. I'm assigning you to control them. I know it's going to be a tough assignment, but I think you can do it.

I need three volunteers.. You, you and you!

It's best not to complain about orders Donna.

You're lucky, I got shoved into Wernher's XO slot Yup, that's right. I do all the work while he gets all the credit.

"SIR! Sewing Wild Oats SIR!

That was my actual response to the same question posed by the brigade commander in Basic Training, during the colonels' inspection. I was a 33 year old buck private at the time.

Maybe you should go to sailor school. "Prow" can be used in place of "bow", but is much less common than it was in sailing ship days.

The Poop Deck is the officers' deck, above the captain's cabin on a sailing ship. The aft end of the ship is indeed the stern.

A portal is a doorway, usually a big one, commonly the entrance to a church. There are no portals on a ship, except perhaps the entrance to the grand ballroom on an ocean liner. The "little round window" is a porthole.

Steve and Wolferz, a match made it heaven.....

Knowing you both somewhat as the internet allows, I see a perfect love hate match. I'm just dying to see who will catch and spell check the other first....

Grumpy old men who fish...

I see that Sailor Steve will be needing some remedial training on my brand of humor.

As an aside Captain Armistead... there is no excuse for mis.. err.. .poor spellin.
Parse what you write. Correct your SNAFUs. The internet is a good source, just type what you think the correct word is into your address bar et ' joila!

Just be glad that I don't invoke the Villebilly method.

M R Ducks

M R not

O S A R
C M Wangs?
L I B M R ducks.

By the way, the letter N is nowhere near that T.

"Match made it heaven"????

Only MWolfe could misspell the word A.

Default From Wkipedia...

Quote:
The prow is the forward most part of a ship's bow that cuts through the water. The prow is the part of the bow above the waterline. The terms prow and bow are often used interchangeably to describe the most forward part of a ship and its surrounding parts. In old naval parlance, the prow was the battery of guns placed in the fore gun-deck.
Since Submarines have torpedoe tubes in this area, the correct term would/could be prow.

Yesterday I couldn't spell sub mah ree ner. Today I are one.

We've been through this before, even a brand of humor must contain some humor, unless you like laughing at yourself. If I, after several years of knowing you don't get it, I doubt Steve will either. My fear is you two are so much like, that when Steve gets to know you, he won't like you at all.

Regarding myself, it's not about being funny or smart, it's about being right, although I do find myself smart and funny. You don't realize the simplicity of my stupidity came about at Ubi, often having to lower myself so I could understand and connect to the many stupid people there. I consider it my gift to humanity. Like Paul stated in the bible "when in Rome, act like a Roman."

Even I know "A/a" ain't a word, it's a letter, you can't misspell a letter, so I await your apology. Worse, you misspelled "spelln", eveyone knows speling ends with a g, so whoses
stoopid now?

However, thanks for the advice, I didn't know I could type in words soundings into the address bar and get more Angelina Joila images.

You say you were a private, which means you weren't in the navy. We were told that only jarheads put an extra "Sir!" before the reply.

That's actually a fairly new version, dating only to the 1980s. The version I learned in the '50s was

ABCD puppies?
LMNO puppies!
OSAR! CMP?

Probably not. I don't do spelling, just grammar.

How do you figure that? In all the many sources I've read I've never seen the term used on a submarine.

Are you smarter than a fifth grader after you down a fifth?

Armistead my friend, you will never get my humor because it requires at least three neurons firing in sequence and a quark and a partridge in a pear tree. Spelling was spelled correctly "spellin" (sic)
The southern mind don't need all them letters to git the gist of a word.
Maybe you're secretly a transplanted yankee sent to spy on the folk in South Carolina.

@ Steve, you are correct sir. There never has been or ever will be a submarine bow referred to as a prow. I was just messing with Captain Donna's feigned attitude.

Grammar Nazis! Mein God!
