Default A few GWX questions

I finally made the leap to GWX! Woo!

As I wasn't sure how my computer would react to the added load, I started a test campaign just to see how things run. So far so good, though I've noticed tiny bits of lag here and there (in port, so I suspect it'll fix itself once I'm in the open sea).

First, it says somewhere in the GWX manual that you start with 1500 renown, but I only started with 1000. Any idea why?

Second, I started in the 7th flotilla, Aug. '39. I poked around in the harbor and sank the training ships as instructed, and waited for the radio message to arrive. When it did I was surprised to find that I was being ordered to transfer to the 1st or 2nd flotilla. Why is this? Was the 7th not active at the start of the war?

If it makes a difference I am also using SH3 Commander. (I did install the modified cfg files for compatibility with GWX.)

Also, I immediately noticed that ships need to be much closer (approx. 2000-2500m) before I can get a positive ID on my notepad. I've see a couple ships well within visual range, but when I hover over them with the periscope crosshairs they aren't recognized as targets until I'm much closer. I assume this is by design as you'd have to be able to make out what colors they were flying before opening fire, but if someone could confirm that would be great.

Also, let me take a moment to officially thank all the modders out there who made all my bumbling along possible, I've yet to leave the harbor and I'm already impressed.

I think you should read GWX manual again to answer your first two questions..

In the stock game you start with 500. I never knew GWX upped that to 1000. To get 1500 you have to take the Academy lessons. If you started with the 7th flotilla you should start with 2500

Yes. The 7th flotilla was based out of Kiel from June 1938. I don't know why they put it at Königsberg.

No, it makes no difference.

That I can't help you with. GWX lets the attack periscope go to 10x magnification. I set mine back to a historical 6x, and I never attack from outside 1000 meters. That part's not historical, it's just me.
