Thanks Steve. as you can tell I've been a lurker around here for quite some time. With the SS Ubi sinking from a self inflicted wound, it was time to find a more stable ship to drop my sea bag upon.
![]() Gather round gents and assist me with draining this case of champagne that Steve brought.

I seem to have found the SimSim forum for SH4.
I'll just toss in that I completed 2nd Patrol of career that began in late May 1942. In the first Patrol, sank a Hiryu CV. In this Patrol, had to hit a couple of PZs in the Aleutians. After that, had time to get to Guadalcanal in time for Savo Island on 9 August. In transit sank a 5,000 ton merchant. At Savo, sank a Takao CA. Slowly worked my way north and intercepted IJN TF on 22 August. Detected around 1330 base time during a sonar check. Got into position - was able to get of a TF report. Had to penetrate the outer screen which proved easy because of the sea state. Went to P-depth and saw an approaching Shokaku CV around 4,500 yards away - speed 16. I was about 1,200 yards off the track, well positioned for a 10 torpedo salvo. I wanted to make sure that I sank this baby. Kept popped scope up to refine solution then downing it again. On last look, tweaked the solution and let fly. Dived the boat - was crossing 120' when the first torpedo hit. Out of the 10, there were 4 misses, 4 hits, and 2 duds. Somewhat sloppy but acceptable. Made it back to Midway with 3 objectives and 46,000 tons. Before embarking on Patrol 3, I decided to start a German career. I wonder if the reinstall will have corrected the German TDC bug... |

I see that I'm not the only one that gave up on UBI.
Their new format really sucks and now this. I stayed because there were some good folks there but I see most of them are finding their way to the best forum anywhere. ![]() ![]() Magic

Welcome aboard Paul and Magic. I have a special job for the tow of you. We need to check the sonar. One needs to give a test count into the hydrophone, and the other needs to listen to make sure pinging is getting out. The regular sonar crew will listen inside.
