Here's a first for me. Playing RFB 2.0 and RSRD. Late September '43 patrolling/recon of Tarawa and Gilberts. I get a Radar contact close to the coast of Tarawa, but can't visually see anything. As I move in closer (really close), I begin to make out faint images of mast structure. Seeming strange to me, I go to external cam, and zoom towards the spot. There is a large merchant moored there, but it shows up as a faint, transparant image. It shows on Radar, but the crew can't see it. Anyone else have an incident such as this? This is a first for me, and I've been playing my current mod lineup for quite some time now with not even an hiccup of a problem.

I always heard the Flying Dutchman was around Formosa. Don't recall hearing of around the Gilberts.
Never know though. ![]()

The ship (actually turned out to be two) were large merchants moored off of Tarawa. They were not the Flying Dutchman. They both showed on radar, but were not visible, just a faded transparant image. Very strange

Sounds like a texture rendering issue. Were you able to ID them yourself?

Checking "Volumetric Fog" on the Graphics Options page will make your crewmen transparent. Unchecking fixes that. If you can duplicate the contact, you might see if the same fix works in your situation.

Volumetric fog is not ticked on. I can ID the ships if I use external cam. and zoom to the location. Then I could make out a faint, transparant image of the ships. It's strange that it's only the ships moored close to the island. Other contacts in the area showed up normally, and were successfully engaged.

This sounds like a "fog" issue. Ships in this "fog" would be faded, whitish images and would be hard to lock on. I say "fog" because the game considers this fog, but is really due to wind induced spray. Most of the main mods dialed this back to reduce the problem. |

The issue persists
![]() Can't say for certain if the Troop Transport will show under other conditions, since I haven't had the luck of coming across any in other encounters. But the fact that it shows up perfectly in the museum is strange. |

As I recall RSRD has a few basically sunk merchants near Tarawa, but they look like transparent hulls. I think he did it for a photo recon mission or something. I believe he explains it in the RSRD doc. file. If you're not doing the photo mission, the ID doesn't activate, in fact I think the mission itself is broke. I believe they're listed as Target 1 and 2 in the ID book.
If it's happening at other ports, sounds like a texture rendering issue.
