Really, she just wants to mash buttons and beat stuff up.
You need some versatility
I would suggest you go with the Kenwood, the buttons are simple to use and as well as beating stuff up it can cut&slice&whip&blend.

I may be pointing this out too late in the game. But if you have more than one gaming computer and an HD tv why not look into steams big picture mode? Most of the fighting games end up on steam and in big picture mode you can play them on your tv with a controller. You would just need to buy a wireless 360 controller and the peripheral needed to connect it to the PC.

You can most likely get a couple fighting games for cheap with steams thanksgiving sale.

Both systems are on 'par' as far as title genres go, with the PS3 edging it in terms of exclusives. I would also say the PS3 is marginally the better choice for 'spectacle' on those exclusives, with titles such as the Uncharted trilogy, Killzone 2 & 3, Infamous 1 & 2 and the upcoming The Last of Us.

The 360 excels in multiplayer connectivity. It makes the process for the player very simple and intuitive. HOWEVER, you pay for this. While, not as polished, the PS3 is 100% free and solid enough not for it to be a concern.

I can't speak for the 360 in terms of content supply but on top of the Free PS3 service you can opt to subscribe to PS Plus and for an annual subscription £39.99 you are afforded 11 Free Full Title games (usually AAA or AA names) per Month (plus other discounted & free content). These are yours to keep until your Sub expires. The package also includes 1GB cloud storage for Save file backups and time automated schedules for system updates and game patches (set it to come on overnight and you're greeted with a message telling you what's been patched/updated).

Multiplatform Content: Regardless of what most fans say, the issue of quality when it comes to this content is split across the 2 devices equally. However, some of the biggest names do favour the 360, ala Call of Duty. Although, it shouldn't really be a huge consideration given that it's a 'swings & roundabouts' deal.

Quality of service: A personal gripe of mine. The SCEA region (US) has an excellent team behind it, communicating well with users, offering great sales and securing releases of the latest titles. Meanwhile the SCEE (EU) region is completely opposite to this and has left me considering moving my allegiance next time around. If you're in the US, you're fine.

Finally, consideration should be give to the fact that Microsoft is rumoured to be releasing their new console next year, with Sony following end of 2013/start 2014. The most important part of this is that the PS4 is likely to ditch the Cell Processor in favour of a more mainstream PC derived processor. In doing so, it effectively results in all PS3 content (disc or digital) being incompatible. Perhaps that's why Sony bought GaiKai but nothing's confirmed.

Given that^, why buy a console at all? Xbox style controllers work fine with windows; You can run a PC on modern TVs no problem; Why waste money in a sub standard computer?

If it's a resource issue get her her own PC/gaming laptop.

Hope U haven't bought console already!

Because it's more practical.
Hooking a PC to a TV might be easy but comes at a price.
-You render the PC useless to do other things then just gaming (I don't see myself writin a whole piece on the floor, behind a lounge table if I'm lucky that the wires of my keyboard and mouse reach that far.)
-It turns the living room into a mess of calbes (Power, Video, Audio, Internet if you're not on Wi-Fi, Keyboard and Mouse, joystick etc)
-You have to deal with wife and perhaps kids wanting to watch something on the TV well...you either turn off the PC and let them watch or move back to your desk.

So yeah Takeda may have lost his dignity but at least he can keep his PC for himself

-What can a console do while hooked up and running a game? Nothing! (personally my PC does a hell of a lot while running a game/sim windowed on one monitor while browsing etc. on the other!) Pretty sure a console won't do that!

-Wireless; just like xbox/any other computer on the market!
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en...-00011#details

-Console style games for PC shouldn't require a keyboard any more than for xbox.

-Lappy should have less wires that a console!

-Pretty sure this would be a bigger issue on a console where you can't run multiple monitors!

Sorry mate, not an attack, just sayin'!

Again this goes down to what people do
most people I think tend to remain focused on the game so don't need more then just one screen with the game.

Also I think it does ruin the image of your livingroom a bit, not a pretty sight.
(I know because I once hooked my Beasty to the TV + LCD monitor)

Sure you can eliminate some things with Wi-Fi equipment if you feel like dealing with batteries all the time (those bastards always run out of juice when you don't want them do don't they?)

But accesing the console game through windows might be a bit of a problem with no keyboard and mouse

Same amount of cables actually if you have a console with the wireless controllers.

unless your on a lappy then perhaps just unplug and move to a table but a desktop, you still have to deal with personal comfort managing the thing and the distracting factor of having the TV blasting some obnoxious disney channel garbage and you try to focus on your game or whatever you where doing

No need to be sorry as I never see a discussion as an attack...and I just did my counter say

Doesn't really matter, she wants a console, a console is what she'll get.

Just a matter of which one.
(which is as equally difficult justify)

Yeah, we've explored that route. Trust me, I am very familiar with the world of PC gaming. Bottom line is, as danlisa said, she wants a console.

Consoles do have the added benefit of being able to lay out on the couch and play some video games in comfort. I know I'm enjoying the crap out of AC3 on my PS3 whilst laying on the couch.
