When not setting up an attack or anything, just moving from say midway to japanese waters, what do you do?
Some times I'll listen to music or put a sub movie on or sometimes I write stories about my crew and our adventures. What useless thing do you do to pass time? |

I've thought abuot doing stuff like that. But instead I'm so busy anyway...with wife, kids, work that I just end up accelerating to a suitable area to begin hunting.

I just crank up the TC until just before the frame rate starts to sag (usually about 4K for my box). It takes a minute or two to get from Midway to the patrol area. That's not teleportation, but it's not time enough to really do anything else either. And, depending on the patrol area and course I've laid in, I may get dropped out of TC to dodge patrol A/C now and again. As I get close to the patrol area, I start running submerged during daylight, to increase the chance of surprise, and that breaks up the trip even further. SH4 is so good at dropping out of TC at the first instant of contact that I haven't seen a need to slow things down. So I really don't have long transit times. Is there some reason why I should be slowing the trip down? Am I missing more than I realize?

I always find my patrols to be unrealistically long. As far as I know, submarine patrols used to last on average between 2 to 3 months, mine sometimes go all the way up to 5 months.

Do you wait for orders to RTB? I just shoot off all my fish, or use all the gas, and then send a status report and come home. Two months is a longish partol for me. Nobody ever seems to care whether I complete a mission objective or not. I still get medals and renown when I do good. Again, am I missing out on something here?
