Default Land Lubber!

Yes... that is me.

Well, I decided to pick up SHIII just because... I have never played a naval combat sim before. I feel I have the capacity to learn though, seeing I play many flight sims to full realism

Anyhow.. I was strolling through the store and saw this:

And I thought hmm... well, it looks kinda neat. I'll check it out.
So, I got it installed, patched, fired up. Did the Naval Academy.. and wow.. I'm floored! This game seems pretty dang cool. And to top it off... a campaign! woohoo! I always did like U-571 and Hunt for Red October...

So.. here I am, at the #1 site for Naval Simulation and I am asking you guys for help.

I like to play sims at as real as I can get, but I am constantly having to slap myself from using the f12, free look view. No no! But it just seems very hard determining the position of boats etc underwater! Any tips, tactics, etc?

And.. along with realism, I gotta ask something. The water. I have never seen such clear, crisp, water! Which.. isn't very real
So, I went searching around for mods, and bam.. here I am. With a HUGE selection of mods. So.. this where I also need your help...

For someone who desires realism, etc... what mods are a MUST HAVE and what mods do you recommend? I guess I could try them all out one by one, but.. I figure you guys know ALOT more about it than I do!

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to becoming an active member of this community!

P.S. Yes I really do get sea sick quite easily. I dunno why on earth I bought a Naval simulation

Thanks

Also....

I have a Radeon 9200 (yes, I am outdated), so I get those black triangle artifcacts that flash on the skyline alot. Esp around boats. Any fix for this anywhere at all?

If not, no biggie. Just wondering.

Welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy the game. But be careful mentioning enjoying U-571 again. Especially to any British forum members.

No biggie and not to worry. It's just that the movie despite the good special effects is considered a historical travesity around here. It also has more than it's share of glaring technical flaws in the eyes of U-Boat purists.

LOL i was wondering if somone was gonna make notice of that. Ill go out on a limb and say U571 was a good hollywood movie, but thats all it was.

Anyway welcome aboard, sub games can be addictive. The reason U571 is practically a 4 letter word (hmm it is.. never thought of that), is because its so full of historical inaccuracies that anyone familiar with that historical timeperiod gets a headache looking at it.

Forget that rubbish - see "Das Boot".

It is the holy grail of submarine movies.

After Das Boot, anything done by Hollywood looks (and is) second rate

Don't let the Das Boot fan club dismay you CSik. You're still welcome here.

But check it out if you have time.

Nice site

I installed IUB, and it seemed very cool. Except..

It made those black artifact missing sky thingies appear so much more than the stock game, that I felt like screamin "the sky is falling! the sky is falling!". Disabled the mod, and the artifacts were reduced to one or two every couple mins, instead of a constant 8-10, flashing everywhere.

Oh well Too bad I can't afford a new video card. Ima have to wait until I can get a new one
