I'd rather people did tell us when leaving, just disappearing is quite rude and sometimes worrying.

Are you worried about the 70,000+ members who have left, or never posted at all? I'm not.

I say if someone wants to go, just go. Having the account sit there doesn't hurt anything.

It is not like keeping an account incurs a significant cost.

I took a break from this site for about a year (got pissed off about GT). No one probably noticed.

I came back. A lot of people take breaks. There are some that should take breaks too.

I don't really see the point of publicly closing an account. If people have particular friends here, they can always PM them to let them know.

This site has many many "members" that never post. Looking at the numbers, the vast majority never post. And that's OK.

So the the OP, take a break. May be later you might want to come back or maybe not. Either way, there is no advantage of closing your account.
