Default A coward-that's what he is

Sorry for the strong use of words in the title

But when you read the article about what captain Francesco Schettino have said and done on the bridge before, under and right after the disaster.

He is also a shame for those captains that do they jobs, even in crisis.

This line really got me.

He has claimed he later "tripped" and fell into a lifeboat which took him to shore before the evacuation was complete
Right...

A bad captain is the weakest link of any ship. Even the high tech vessels of today.

I defended the guy at the time because the information was fragmented and a lot of conclusions were being jumped to by both the public and the company who employed the captain. However, this evidence certainly stacks up against the captain.

Not looking good for him but he did this by himself.
Too bad his stupidity came at the cost of people's lives

I agree with the title of this thread because that's what he is. I mean come on he just happened to slip into a lifeboat

That's what happens when you promote the security guard.

Between this and the previously-revealed radio conversations between him and the coast guard, I don't see how this guy could have any credibility left. He's practically a gift to writers, because he seems to be a perfect combination of a comic fool, shameless coward and drama queen. Hopefully history and literature give him what he deserves.

I thought that's how he started at the company. Having just read his profile on the BBC it actually reads 'officer in charge of security'.

So head doorman then?

I knew this when he refused to go back on board to see to his charges.

A captain, be it in a soveriegn countries Navy, or on a private vessel is the authority. His responsibility is to his passengers and crew, himself last.

Captain Smith of the Titanic went down with his ship, and he knew they were doomed. Out of duty (and maybe guilt) he stayed aboard, and saw to his charges, the best he could with the lack of lifeboats.

This guy is a wuss, I knew it when I heard the CG tapes.

Disgusting disregard for maritime law, and a slap in the face to maritime authorities. Utter cowardice in abandoning the people he was entrusted to protect. Those passengers trusted him with their lives, and he ran out on them!

Your title is not too strong. It is too weak, and only profanity can express what this man is. Coward is being nice.
