Doing that now. Can I leave the likes of JSGME, the MODS folder and TDW's bits and pieces in the directory if I uninstall? I usually take everything out before re-installing

Dont take anything out , just unenable the mods before uninstalling . Use TDW mod validator to check if all your mods are installed correctly . It is found in NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Applications

The MEP file fails with a memory exception fault, so I put them all in by hand.

The Validator comes up with a couple of errors (Data/Land/AsianVillage) so it might be OH that's corrupt. Validator also can't find saved campaigns.

Anyway....................I'm about to try starting a new campaign and do the in/out business to set up OH properly. We shall see!

So much for that!...........................It crashed this time before it even loaded as far as the main menu! Back to the drawing board

ANother fresh installation...............Patched...........mods inserted. Start a new campaign, exit after the first animation stops, change history to "true", start a new campaign again, get the "skip tutorial" choice, opt to skip, it rolls on up to the point where the Bunker scene is just about to appear (you hear the weapons guy start to speak) then..........it locks up (programme not responding).

No matter what I've tried it just crashes there every time. I've been literally DAYS at this. It's not a lot of fun when you can't get the latest versions of your favourite Mods to run.

I'll try downloading and extracting every mod on the list again I guess because one of them (God knows which one) has to be corrupted. I suspect it's either OH 1.9 or TDWs 7.1 UI. But that's for tomorrow I think. I've had enough for one day

goto - Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

look for - Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable 9.0.30729.4974

if you have it - delete it

If the MEP file doesnt work then there is something wrong with either your install of the mod enabler or the MEP file . I have loaded and unloaded with the MEP file at least a hundred times no problems .

Don't you love it when up wake up at 4 in the morning because not being able to figure this out is driving you nuts? Right, here we go again. I'll install SH5 afresh and patch it to 1.2 Then I'll delete the Visual C because it certainly does install from the DVD. After that, a fresh load of downloads to make up the MEP and try again. Isn't it fun to have a plan for the day?!?!?!?!?

I appreciate greatly all your help here, Sober. You're a gentleman and a scholar, Sir!

I don't have that one, Trevally.

I have various "2008s" (versions 9.0.30729................4148, 5570 and 6161)

There's a 2010 version (x86 Redistributable - 10.0.30319) which is 11 MB in size compared to 2 - 5 KB for all the 2008 versions. Is it worthwhile deleting all the versions before this or not?

Looks like the problem was corrupted files. Which one or how many I haven't a clue because I simply extracted them all again and used the MEP which worked perfectly first time after the trouble yesterday. There was no hint of spurious saved games on this last re-install either, so that remains a mystery for now.

I can't thank Sober enough for all his help. Trevally, too, for his assistance.

But neither of you are getting off the hook QUITE yet..................

Am I right in thinking that to modify TDW's Options PY file I should deactivate New UIs 7.1, modify the file accordingly then activate again prior to running the game?

One last question (you must be thinking I'm a complete numbskull)............

The Debugging programme "Dbgview".............

What's the right way to run it? Do you just fire it up on the desktop and then start SH? I see it runs away merrily spitting out lines but what is it actually doing/telling me?

Sorry to be so anal retentive, I can't help it!!!
